    We are currently seeking a PROJECT ARCHITECT to join the Education Team in our SAN DIEGO, CA office! Our ideal candidate is a licensed Architect in the state of California with substantial DSA experience designing public K-12 schools. They should be fully competent in all conventional aspects of architecture, responsible for specific technical design aspects of assigned major education projects, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs.

    IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19, OUR STAFF MAY BE TEMPORARILY WORKING FROM HOME, IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL COUNTY AND STATE GOVERNMENT ORDERS. ON OCCASION DURING SHELTER-IN-PLACE, PROJECT STAFF MAY STILL BE REQUIRED TO VISIT ACTIVE JOB SITES (WHILE FOLLOWING COVID REGULATIONS). NEW EMPLOYEES WILL BE SUPPORTED WITH VIRTUAL ONBOARDING AND TRAINING AS WELL AS ONLINE COLLABORATIVE TOOLS. WE ANTICIPATE THAT EMPLOYEES WILL RETURN TO THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICE LOCATIONS ONCE RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED AND DAHLIN DETERMINES IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES FOR THIS POSITION SHOULD BE PREPARED TO COMMUTE REGULARLY TO OUR SAN DIEGO OFFICE AND CLIENT MEETINGS IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex, education projects
    • Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs
    • Perform analyses of design, planning and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts in coordination with the Division of the State Architect (DSA)
    • Carry out complex or novel assignments, requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
    • Review completed reports, plans estimates, and calculations
    • Review drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards
    • Write reports and specifications, as requested
    • May provide technical guidance to less experienced staff and can redline others’ work
    • May direct, coordinate and oversee production of project design, construction documents and/or construction administration

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of public-school/DSA project delivery methods
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
    • Self-confident; tenacious while maintaining positive working relationships with clients, outside consultants, and technical staff
    • Excellent problem solver and independent thinker with good listening skills and strong follow-through.
    • Strong skills and talent in Revit/BIM and AutoCAD; SketchUp modeling and Adobe Design Suite experience preferred

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, & CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Registered Architect in the state of California required
    • 5+ years’ experience in the production of public K-12 Education projects with the DSA
    • Extensive experience working with DSA and other jurisdictional agencies to obtain approval
    • Graduate of a NAAB accredited 4 or 5 year architecture school
