    Job Description

    The Peer Support Specialist will create, lead and coordinate support groups for individuals with mood disorders and mental health challenges. This requires lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges and a desire to use that experience to help others in their recovery journey.

    This position is grant funded and would likely only be for 18 months with an extension to 3 years total.

    This position involves considerable networking among community members in Contra Costa County and organizations to bring more individuals, particularly from the BIPOC and LGBTQIA++ communities, into peer support services.

    If you are not currently state certified, we will provide the opportunity to obtain Peer Support Specialist Certification in the State of California which would be assisted and trained by DBSA California.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide outreach to the BIPOC Community in Contra Costa County
    • Establish and maintain a trusting relationship with individuals and encourage them to utilize peer support services.
    • Provide emotional support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals in their recovery journey.
    • Utilize personal lived experience to inspire hope and promote recovery for individuals with similar challenges.
    • Lead support groups and facilitate workshops for individuals with similar challenges.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.

    Qualifications:

    • 21 years old or older
    • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges required.
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to maintain boundaries and confidentiality.
