    SUMMARY:   A Program Chair is the principal academic officer for the Culinary Program on campus.  Responsibilities include: day-to-day operations, working with faculty on campus in assisting students toward successful program completion, staffing the classroom with instructors who support the mission of the college, and developing, evaluating, and revising curricula. The Chair participates in activities that promote the stature of the department and the college and abides by the mandates set by the Board of Trustees, the Campus Director and the Executive Committee. Incumbent must assure that the Art Institutes philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment, which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

    KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

    • Provide academic leadership and select, train, develop, manage, and lead faculty and staff team members according to the guidelines provided by the Ai System Provost.

    • Carry a maximum instructional load of three courses per quarter.

    • Serve as a resource to the Campus mentors and students when questions relating to curriculum arise such as course outcomes, course prerequisites, etc. 

    • Manage equipment requisition process for classroom support and student project completions while ensuring students are training in the proper use of the equipment and comply with the policies related to equipment checkout.

    • Serve as resource to the Faculty Liaison regarding faculty credentials and industry expertise, and serve as curriculum expert when academic course schedules are developed.  Provide registration support for campus needs.

    • Provide support for campus events and student activities such as orientation, Open House, Student Forums, Industry panels, program Advisory Committee meetings, etc.

    • Work with program faculty and Industry Professionals with input from Campus leaders and Directors of Institutional Effectiveness to research, develop and implement relevant curriculum.

    • Review Annual Institutional Effectiveness report outcomes with input from IE Director to determine needed programmatic improvements in the programs to include curriculum changes, faculty training needs, technology needs, etc.

    • Participate in the systematic program review process every 5 years for all programs including relevancy/currency of the programs, student achievement outcomes, etc.

    INTERACTS WITH: CAMPUS DIRECTOR / ADMINISTRATOR, FACULTY COORDINATOR, FACULTY, STUDENTS, PARENTS, ALUMNI

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):

    • Knowledge
      • Master's degree in the discipline being taught or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in the discipline being taught.
      • Minimum of 7 - 10 years of successful higher education leadership experience, prior experience as a full time faculty member within the area of (media arts, design, fashion or culinary).
      • Network contacts within the industry
      • Demonstrated knowledge of and contacts within the industry
    • Skills
      • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
      • Strong interpersonal skills with faculty and students.
      • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
      • Strong computer literacy skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Abilities
      • Ability to conceive and market adult educational programs consistent with the Ai Brand.
      • Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
      • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
