  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the North America Technical Manager, the Research and Analytical Chemist functions as a knowledge base of technical and analytical skills and that supports the Company's R&D Development, plant production, regulatory and customer facing functions, and provides ongoing commitment to Environmental compliance.

    Functions/Responsibility

    • Provide day-to-day operation of the LC-MS instrument and perform wet chemistry analysis in compliance with all applicable standard operation procedures, policies, and regulations. This includes LC-MS based sample extraction, analysis and data interpretation, and writing reports.
    • Responsible for developing new analytical methods and refining existing methods using sound scientific techniques and continuous improvement tools.
    • Maintains and troubleshoots LC-MS, interacts with instrument suppliers to resolve equipment problems.
    • Responsible for handling contracts for maintenance and operation of analytical equipment, and interface with external commercial contract labs for analytical work.
    • Performs analyses, evaluates, and interprets results and reports in a timely fashion on request from R&D, Manufacturing, customers, environmental, and regulatory departments. This may include projects such as production contamination, or effluent analysis, FDA registration, TSCA, DSL and REACH registration.
    • Interfaces/collaborates with other analysts, technical groups, and various departments within DCL to enhance teamwork and accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently.
    • Performs calibrations of instruments as required by ISO 9001.
    • Prepares SOPs and other documents such as validation protocols, validation reports, and data reports for testing results.
    • Responsible to keep lab supplied appropriately with solvents, reference standards and consumables to run all required analytical work.
    • Demonstrates leadership in promoting a safe workplace by active participation in safety improvement, best practices GLP and incident reporting/evaluation.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

    • Bachelor's or Masters of Science degree in chemistry with emphasis on analytical chemistry.
    • Extensive knowledge of LC-MS is required.
    • Minimum 5 years of proven hands-on experience with LC-MS, method development, sample preparation, LC-MS data analysis, and unknown identification and quantification.
    • Experience in HPLC and ICP is a plus.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Must be a team player with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

    WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Wear proper protective equipment.
    • Are often exposed to contaminants or hazardous conditions while conducting analyses.
    • Work within several feet of others in the laboratory.
    • Sit or stand for an extended period.
    • Be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
