ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND/CULTURE The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) is a private non-profit organization leading the economic revitalization efforts for Detroit, the most exciting urban recovery in the country. The DEGC works closely with the City of Detroit and other partners to support existing businesses and bring new companies and investments to the city. The DEGC designs and implements innovative solutions that drive investment, create jobs, and build the economy through strong public-private collaborations. The DEGC's commitment to integrity, transparency, and professionalism permeates the organization and undergirds our stature as the economic development authority for the City. The DEGC provides staff services to Detroit's public development authorities, including The Downtown Development Authority, The Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, The Economic Development Corporation, The Eight Mile Woodward Corridor Improvement Authority, Neighborhood Development Corporation, the Local Development Finance Authority, and the Tax Increment Finance Authority. DEGC works tirelessly to advocate for inclusion and opportunity for individuals from all walks of life that do business in the City of Detroit. We strive to develop programs that stress economic inclusion for every business within our city, from start-up to been-up and beyond. SUMMARY OF ROLE At the center of Detroit's economic revitalization is our robust small-business community. Home-grown restaurants, retailers, and service providers bring needed goods and services to residents. Small businesses provide local jobs, stabilize neighborhoods, and create a sense of community. Black-owned businesses are especially important to an inclusive and accessible economy. DEGC's Small Business Services Team manages a host of programming to help startups and established small businesses flourish. The DEGC is seeking a bi-lingual (English/Spanish), energetic and skilled individual to fill the role of a District Business Liaison (DBL) for Detroit City Council District 6 (map attached) to augment existing economic development activity and programs by acting as a direct resource to area businesses and seamlessly linking them to resources that support the retention and expansion of businesses in these neighborhoods. The District Business Liaison will meet with businesses to determine assistance needs and impacts on economic and business climate environments within their assigned council district. Through this increased frequency of contact with Detroit-based businesses, the District Business Liaisons will provide real-time awareness of and respond to existing, new, and emerging obstacles, needs, and trends. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Planning, organizing, and performing business visits closely coordinated with DEGC's small business and business development team members. This shall include, but not be limited to, conducting on-site personal interviews with business and property owners to assess business concerns and opportunities. * Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of programs and resources available to businesses. * Assisting DEGC in identifying, prioritizing, and cultivating lasting relationships with neighborhood and small businesses. * Supporting the development and dissemination of periodic surveys that help DEGC better understand and project business needs. * Working with DEGC and other economic development and business support partners to tailor programming and support to the needs of the neighborhood and small businesses. * Acting as a liaison and facilitating communication between the businesses, city departments, and other organizations where appropriate. * Making DEGC management and City staff aware of critical challenges and obstacles threatening businesses, growth, and expansion opportunities. * Directly assisting businesses by providing program and resource information; making referrals; engaging with leaders at the City, DEGC, business support organizations, and lending institutions as an advocate of the businesses. * Participate in networking and community events with potential neighborhood small businesses and partners to increase program visibility. * Distributing relevant marketing materials and information to the business community. * Documenting and maintaining records of business visits, follow-up activities, and outcomes. * Submit a monthly report to the SBS Director of Retention and Expansion about the small businesses' request trends, achievements, challenges, and support provided. * Serve as a resource for the Councilmembers who represent their district by: * Holding office hours in Council District Office as appropriate. * Being readily available to address business concerns from Council members. * Cre
