Job Description/Summary
The Development Specialist plays a crucial role in PBHG's Development Department, working in close collaboration with the administrative team, Finance, and Program Directors to maximize individual donor and grant revenue while enhancing PBHG’s external reputation and community engagement. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Development, this role is pivotal in generating over $500,000 in net annual fundraising revenue through the management of multiple yearly appeals, events, and third-party fundraisers. The Development Specialist will also foster community partnerships and assist with major donor cultivation as needed.
Responsibilities
General Development Support:
• Register for and attend community events, conferences, and stakeholder gatherings.
• Serve as a staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with community, government, and individual stakeholders to enhance the agency’s private grant revenue.
• Participate on organizational and external community committees/work groups as appropriate.
• Assist in the establishment of a planned giving program
Appeals Management:
• Assist with the management of annual year-end, Giving Tuesday and holiday appeals.
• Oversee special appeals throughout the year, including May Mental Health Matters.
• Assist the VP of Strategic Development in strategizing additional fundraising appeals
• Collaborate with Marketing personnel to promote all campaigns through online and print marketing
• Manage Donor Profiles and donation records in CRM for corresponding campaigns
Events Management:
• Lead the planning and execution of the Annual Golf Outing, May Mental Health Month fundraiser, donor appreciation event, and additional events assigned by Executive Leadership.
• Liaise with third-party fundraisers.
• Solicit sponsorships, underwriting, and donations to support events.
• Assist with the organization and management of volunteers and interns at events.
• Manage post-event and post-appeal acknowledgement/thank you letters.
• Manage budget and financials associated with each assigned event and campaign, including revenue and expenses, purchase requests, invoices, and receipts.
• Manage Donor Profiles and donation records in CRM for corresponding events.
Communications/Marketing Support:
• Assist in implementing a comprehensive communications plan to expand and cultivate the donor base through in-person meetings, mail, and email.
• Collaborate with marketing personnel to target communication to priority, mid-level, and lower-level donors, aiming to increase gift amounts and secure monthly donors.
• Update donor records including profiles, gift information, outreach, strategy, etc. in donor system.
• Work with marketing personnel to effectively promote and advertise assigned events, and fundraising activities.
Competencies
• Understanding of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices including donor cultivation, solicitation strategies, and stewardship.
• Proficiency in building and maintaining relationships with donors, supporters, and stakeholders, including effective communication skills both written and verbal, and the ability to convey the organization's mission and impact compellingly.
• Experience with donor perfect system or similar CRM software for maintaining accurate and up-to-date donor records, tracking interactions, and generating reports to analyze donor trends and giving patterns.
• Possess an understanding of basic financial principles relevant to fundraising, such as budgeting and financial reporting.
• Capacity to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues across departments, volunteers, and external partners to achieve fundraising goals and objectives.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines effectively, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Committed to upholding ethical standards and integrity in all fundraising activities.
• Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office and task management software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a professional demeanor;
• Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and have proven experience managing and responding to multiple priorities and shifting demands;
• Must be able to attend at least two quarterly Agency meetings per year and attend or complete all required meetings/trainings as directed.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Health, or Non-Profit Administration, Communications, or similar field; CFRE and/or Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications or Healthcare related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in fundraising, donor relations, grant writing or other relevant areas.
