    Job Description

    The HR Generalist is responsible for the creation, execution, promotion, and maintenance of company human resources policies and practices. The HRG advocates for the success of the company through HR practices that will contribute to an employee-oriented and high performing culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

    The candidate is responsible for recruiting and hiring qualified individuals by interviewing prospect drivers at company’s facility or in the field. The candidate will insure the retention and growth of any new driver as well as of any existing driver. The candidate will work together with dispatchers and managers of each division to provide the appropriate training and tools to drivers for a successful and long-term relationship.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for human resource compliance with regards to all state and federal labor laws.
    • Plan and conduct new employee onboarding and orientation. Prepare job descriptions, recruit, screen and interview candidates to fill vacant positions within the company. Ensure that appropriate background investigations, drug tests, and other new employee validations are conducted prior to the start of new team members.
    • Perform wage analysis studies and report findings to management.
    • Oversee performance management system. Provide on-going coaching and feedback. Make recommendations for the improvement of performance tracking systems.
    • Maintain strong communications with employees with an open door policy in an effort to foster a healthy work environment.
    • Handle and resolve employee relations issues and advise management on the appropriate execution and resolution of employee relations issues.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs. Evaluate human relations and work-related issues. Meet with supervisors and managers to determine effective remediation techniques such as job skill training or personal intervention in an effort to prevent or resolve human relations issues among personnel.
    • Oversee and develop rewards, recognition, and incentive programs aimed at enhancing employee engagement and productivity.
    • Write directives advising employees of company policies regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
    • Maintain and update the employee handbook. Provide and deliver information and materials to keep the staff informed and up to date on policies and procedures.
    • Oversee safety, risk management, and workers compensation: Plan implement, and administer safety programs and procedures. Ensure safety policies are in compliance with local, state and federal laws. Investigate accidents, defend claims, and prepare reports for the insurance carrier. The HRM will be responsible for providing continued safety training for all employees ensuring that the organization is in full compliance with OSHA requirements.
    • Maintain full and complete employee documentation systems. This includes the development and maintenance of documentation systems to ensure record keeping and reporting requirements are complete, accurate, and easily accessible to the appropriate company personnel. Documents and keeps accurate filing for all applications, resumes, offer letters, NDA, INS Form I-9, complaints, grievances, and other important communications to and by employees.
    • Administer company insurance and benefits programs including general business, workers comp, liability and umbrella policies. Act as the primary administrator of the employee 401k, medical, dental, vision and any other employee benefits related programs. Maintain and act as the keeper and custodian of employee records including benefit plan participation. Conduct research on new insurance vendors.
    • Prepare payroll and submit payroll information to the outsourced payroll processing organization. Ensure payroll is prepared in a timely and error free manner.
    • Recruitment of drivers from initial application: Receiving calls from prospective drivers and evaluating driver applicants. Providing prospect with information about pay, benefits, hiring standards and procedures. Conducting interviews with driver applicants. Screening all applications and processing drivers who meet State and Federal requirements as well as company qualifications, background check, DMV record and verifying past employment history.
    • Responsible for road testing prospective drivers and qualifying their performance according to the FMCSR Part 391.31
    • Responsible for sending drivers who successfully pass the road test to a pre-employment DOT drug screen.
    • Responsible for designing and facilitating orientation to new drivers regarding company policies and procedures.
    • Conducts follow-up interviews with hired drivers to assess satisfaction and working conditions.
    • Responsible for Hazmat, electronic logbook, and defensive driving training for drivers during orientation and as needed.
    • Assists managers and dispatchers with any issue departing from the compliance of the Federal and State regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources preferred (or equivalent work experience)
    • 5+ years in human resources, with no less than 3 years in a driver recruitment role
    • SPHR or PHR Certification a plus
    • Participating and active member in PIHRA and/or SHRM desired
    • Excellent technical/computer skills required
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required
    • Experience in a warehousing, manufacturing, distribution or equipment sales/rentals a plus.
    • Must possess a strong business acumen, be able to make good business decisions, and is able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
    • A commercial license and 2 years of driving experience, strongly desired.
    • Minimum of 3 years of recruiting experience in the trucking industry with computer skills
    • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations
    • Experience organizing and facilitation new hire orientations
    • Extensive knowledge of Elogs and HOS regulations
