Job Summary:
A Direct Support Worker provides care and assistance to individuals with disabilities, helping them live as independently as possible. This role focuses on supporting daily activities, promoting well-being, and encouraging community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating
Support individuals in developing life skills (e.g., cooking, budgeting, personal hygiene)
Administer medications as directed (if certified)
Monitor and document client progress and behavior
Provide emotional support and companionship
Assist with transportation to appointments, work, or community activities
Maintain a safe and clean environment
Follow individualized care plans and report any concerns to supervisors
Required Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Experience in caregiving, healthcare, or human services (preferred)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patience, empathy, and reliability
Ability to handle challenging behaviors calmly
Basic computer and documentation skills
Valid driver’s license (may be required)
Certifications (may be required):
CPR and First Aid
Medication Administration Certification (varies by state/employer)
Work Environment:
Residential homes, group homes, or community settings
May require evenings, weekends, or overnight shifts
