    ASSISTANT CONTROLLER – DURANGO MIDSTREAM LLC, THE WOODLANDS, TX

    Come join us!  We are a small natural gas gathering and processing company based in The Woodlands, TX with assets in New Mexico, Texas and Kansas. 

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manages or performs most facets of accounting for Durango.  Analyzes financial information, identifies financial trends, prepares reports for management, including specialized or non-standard reports. Performs tasks needed to maintain the accuracy and integrity of all financial data in accordance with US GAAP as well as external regulatory requirements.  Supervises accounts payable, treasury and general ledger accounting. 

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: 

    Supervises or performs the following functions, as applicable:

    • Prepares or reviews general ledger transactions and journal entries for appropriate support and to ensure accurate financial reporting
    • Performs analysis of complex financial transactions and prepares the associated general ledger entries
    • Prepares or reviews consolidation of entities to accurately reflect total organizational financial position
    • Ensures that all accounting entries are processed timely and accurately
    • Reviews financial reports for completeness and accuracy
    • Manages the monthly, quarterly and year-end closing schedules
    • Completes assigned monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports within the established deadlines
    • Reconciles intercompany accounts
    • Reviews transactions to ensure proper classification as capital or operational expenditures; maintains PP&E ledgers; calculates and records depreciation; tracks and reports capital projects; researches variances and prepares adjusting entries as needed
    • Oversees preparation of federal 1099 forms
    • Supervises the payables process including the entry of wire and ACH transactions and posting of transactions to the accounting system; entry of vendor invoices into the accounting system; and issuance of checks for payment to vendors
    • Performs daily and monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and sub-ledgers
    • Manages and administers the ERP system
    • Maintains well organized files for supporting documentation and general ledger files
    • Ensures that duties are performed in accordance with established internal controls and guidelines
    • Demonstrates continuous effort to exhibit ownership over key responsibilities, improve operations, and streamline work processes to create efficiencies
    • Prepares ad hoc reports as needed
    • Assists in preparing annual audited financial statements and works with external auditors to complete required audits, including preparing analysis and providing documents requested by auditors
    • Prepares miscellaneous compliance filings for state and federal tax and regulatory agencies
    • Serves as a job expert/organization resource in accounting; stays informed of current accounting issues, including GAAP; maintains comprehensive knowledge of accounting policies and procedures
    • May assist with executing, monitoring and recording commodity hedges
    • Assists in due diligence of potential acquisitions
    • Other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university 
    • 7+ years of professional accounting experience.
    • Supervisory experience in general ledger, payable and treasury accounting.
    • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
    • Expert skills in MS Excel and strong familiarity with MS Word and PowerPoint.  
    • Skills managing ERP systems 
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Prefer candidate with industry-relevant accounting experience (e.g.in the oil and gas/energy industry -- preferably in the natural gas midstream gathering and processing segment) -- minimum of three years industry-relevant experience.
    • Modeling skills in financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting
    • Experience with commodity hedging
    • CPA; Big Four public accounting experience with potential to move into a Controller position
