  • Responsibilities

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Responsible for performing various tasks to support the laboratory technical staff in pre-analytical and post analytical activities. This may include specimen handling, specimen processing, specimen collection to include general equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; inventory control and supply stocking, waived lab testing, answering the telephone, clerical and receptionist duties, data entry. The individual will work collaboratively with all team members in accordance with their department.

    **THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE YOU TO TRAVEL THROUGH OUT THE TREASURE COAST, PALM BEACH, BROWARD AND DADE.    WE PROVIDE A COMPANY VEHICLE.

    SUPERVISION:

     Position does not supervise anyone

     MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    •  Classify and properly label samples by using Joint Commission guidelines which require two Patient identifiers on all specimens submitted.

    • Prepare samples for testing using various laboratory equipment.

    • Interacting with Clients and Patients in a professional conduct.

    • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.

    • Clean and sterilize equipment and work area.

    • Proudly services the company by following all HIPAA, JCAHO, state, and federal laws and standards.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by department manager.

    • In addition to the major duties and responsibilities listed above, this position will be responsible for special projects and assignments on an as needed basis.

    • Attention to detail.  Evaluate specimens for proper labeling, collection, and storage requirements

    • Process specimens for testing, maintaining specimen integrity

    • Identifying patients’ demographic information, cleaning and sanitizing the skin, and extracting the required amount of blood/specimen required for all tests ordered by Physician. Full knowledge of test collection requirements.

    • Transport samples using centrifuging and refrigeration, as well as other preservation techniques and ensuring that samples are correctly logged during the intake process. 

    • Utilizing navigation apps to find the most optimal route, ensuring that vehicles have sufficient gas, are always ready for use, reporting all non-routine maintenance issues and following safe driving policies as set forth by the State.

    • Updating daily/weekly/monthly mileage records as required

    • Pre and Post analytical assistant

      • Department Specific, may include loading specimen on analyzer, inventory, reagent composition
      • Follow instructions from the Section Technologist
      • Accurate pipetting and laboratory skills.
      • Ability to work independently and possess above average problem-solving skills

    ·         Continually maintains work spaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied; properly stores documentation and paperwork.

    ·         Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely.

               

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Processing  
      • Attention to detail.  Evaluate specimens for proper labeling, collection, and storage requirements
      • Process specimens for testing, maintaining specimen integrity
    • Phlebotomy

    EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:  

    •  High School diploma or equivalent OR

    • Nationally certified in blood collection desired

    • 1 year experience in a health care setting preferred

    • Training related to analytical laboratory testing preferred for departmental specific duties

     EXPERIENCE:

    • 1 year experience in a health care setting preferred
    • Training related to analytical laboratory testing preferred for departmental specific duties

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    •  Undertake basic administrative tasks such as basic computer skills, scanning, filing, answering telephones, and email/faxing.

    • Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory procedures or processes performed in department or work area assigned.

    • Ability to work Monday – Friday, hours may vary each day. Maybe required to work some evenings, Saturdays and Holidays.

    • Ability to apply policies and procedures; performs job safely with respect to others, to property, and to individual safety and works effectively with others.

    • Ability to process high volumes of work, without errors.

    • Ability to analyze, evaluate and report data without oversight.

    • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and maintain strong working relationships with others, internally and externally.

    • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.

    • Ability to lift 40 pounds.

     

    OTHER CRITERIA:

    • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record; copy of drivers’ license will be required.

Maintain minimum car insurance, as required by Florida; copy of insurance card will be required. Will be reimbursed for mileage based on accurate representation of mileage utilizing forms provided.
