Reinvigorate The School of Arts, Sciences, and Education:
The next Dean will have the opportunity to strengthen collaborative ties within the entire campus. It is essential that the Dean develops an understanding and is supportive of where the institution is heading because it is on a trajectory for excellence. The Dean should seek synergies that will benefit students, faculty, administrators, and staff, as well as the broader community. The Dean should capitalize on the strengths of the faculty and staff to move the School forward with a sense of commitment, direction, transparency, communication, and purpose. The Dean must nurture innovation and rely less on the traditional mode of operation. It will be important for the Dean to review program enrollments and provide the leadership to evaluate proper staffing of academic areas and lead with creative programming. The new Health Professions Hub provides opportunities for faculty and students to become involved in many areas such as mental health, counseling, and other internships and experiences.
OVERSEE IMPLEMENTATION OF AN UPDATED GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM:
D’Youville faculty members have recently redesigned a core curriculum with a progressive new general education program rooted in the mission of the institution and responsive to the needs of a global society and changing trends in higher education. The Dean will nurture and support scholarly activity and will find new venues to recognize and showcase impressive scholarly activity of the School Faculty and Students. The Dean must also maintain an environment that supports excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship and represent the School and D’Youville at city, state, and national levels.
SUPPORT THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ON NEW AND REVISED PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
It is imperative that the new Dean work toward creatively growing student enrollment within the School in both new and existing programs. Developing robust new on-ground and online programs with financial modeling and enrollment projections is expected.
