    POSITION TITLE:    Safety & Security Officer (Armed)

    DEPARTMENT:                 Production and Facilities

    REPORTS TO:                    Safety & Security Manager, Dr. Anthony Frenette

    DIRECT REPORTS:             None

    TYPE:                             Part-Time, Non-Exempt

    COMPENSATION:            $16.25-$18.00/hour depending on experience

    SCHEDULE:                     Evenings & Weekends

    LOCATION:                      On-Site at the Music Hall at Fair Park

    DESIRED START:               January 31, 2022

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    As a member of the safety and security team, this individual will contribute to a safe, well-managed, and a welcoming environment to all parties entering the Music Hall: volunteers, event staff, artists, technicians, administrators/office employees, community partners, donors, vendors, and visitors. Safety & Security Officers are responsible for providing a hospitable and welcoming environment as well as outstanding service including communication and front-line enforcement of venue and show/promoter safety and security policies.

    Familiarity with Fair Park and its surrounding neighborhoods is strongly preferred. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Greet guests and provide encouragement and support.
    • De-escalate or provide engaging intervention for guests exhibiting disruptive or inappropriate behavior.
    • Promote a safe and healthy environment for all individuals in the Music Hall.
    • Work assigned shifts and duties/locations as determined by the shift coordinator and supervisors.
    • Assist guests with services as requested.
    • Accurately record in writing safety and security incidents and report them to supervisors before end of workday.
    • Ensure Music Hall guests comply with venue/promoter rules and guidelines.
    • Ensure both staff and guest observe all local, state and federal laws while on the property.
    • Examine doors, windows and gates to determine they are secure and will function properly in an emergency.
    • Investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism and accidents.
    • Inspect equipment and machinery to ensure proper function and ascertain if tampering has occurred.
    • Patrol for and immediately irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking pipes and security doors left unlocked.
    • Contact police, the fire department, EMS, and other first responders in case of emergencies.
    • Scan and if necessary, conduct searches of individuals entering the Music Hall.
    • Regulate vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic to maintain orderly ingress and egress
    • Ensure all Music Hall employees, artists, technicians, and volunteer staff understand policies and procedures and the adherence with these guidelines.
    • Assist individuals and notify proper individuals/agencies in case of emergencies, as described in standard and published emergency procedures .
    • Dress professionally in designated work attire.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Obtain and maintain a valid III Security license by the Texas Department of Public Safety-Private Security Bureau.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in written form; reading and writing skills must include the ability to understand and use complete and declarative sentences.
    • Consistent internet access and an associated device to utilize a variety of resource materials in a timely manner and an ability to maintain accurate records.
    • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and common web browsing and calendar software.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of security operations, enforcement procedures, and terminology as well as safety practices in business environments.
    • Demonstrated competency in motivation techniques, basic training methods, conflict de-escalation, and grievance response.
    • Consistent access to reliable transport to and from the Music Hall during evening and weekend hours.
    • Operate and ascend/descend a ladder.
    • Move and position items up to 50 pounds.
    • Position oneself into and out of crawl spaces and confined areas.
    • Traverse the Music Hall and surrounding Fair Park areas multiple times in one shift/day.
    • Hold a static position without meal or restroom breaks for at least two hours of time.
    • Ability to detect sound/noise and visually detect/observe stimuli within normal ranges.

    PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate Arts degree
    • At least three years of security experience in a social setting
    • At least three years of security experience and/or any law enforcement/military experience
