    REPORTS TO:                    Senior Manager of Education and Community Partnerships

    DIRECT REPORTS:             None

    TYPE:                             Independent Contractor

    COMPENSATION:             $75/hour

    SCHEDULE:                        Flexible Weekday Hours Adjusted for Some Weekday Evening and Occasional Weekend Events

    LOCATION:                         On-site work at the Music Hall and surrounding education sites

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Teaching Artist position executes in-classroom and community-based learning opportunities for students, community members, and the DSM audience. This individual will be responsible for execution of lesson plans within DSM's programs. FAMILIARITY WITH FAIR PARK AND ITS SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS IS STRONGLY PREFERRED.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Execute pre-show and post-show engagement programs in conjunction with DSM's Broadway season and other initiatives. Programs include pre-show lobby activities, post-show chat backs, master classes, etc.
    • Execute in-classroom, TEKS based theater lessons for students in grades PK-12.
    • Collaborate with DSM Education & Community Partnerships staff members on maintaining the curriculum, pedagogy, and culture of the organization.
    • Assist DSM Education & Community Partnerships staff in the development of lesson plans created for specific DSM community groups.
    • Strongly and positively represent DSM to other arts, education, and civic institutions to promote constructive working partnerships in the community.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • A passion for arts education and working with young people, educators, and artists.
    • Available for evening and weekend work, as necessary.
    • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to complete assigned tasks.
    • Demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal communications skills.
    • At least one year of experience working in educational settings with diverse student students/program participant populations and across organizational lines--for example, working as an independent contractor for one company while performing services off-site in coordination with another organization.
    • Access to consistent method of transport to/from the Music Hall at Fair Park and locations in/around Dallas County.

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • Understanding of Dallas ISD and surrounding public school district systems.
    • General familiarity with TEKS and Common Core State Standards Initiative.
    • Teaching and administering theater education/community programs in a school or arts organization setting.
    • Fluency in Spanish.
