    Summary and Purpose:

    The Analytical Lab Manager will lead Danimer's Analytical team. The analytical team is responsible for supporting R&D, technical marketing, and process chemistry teams primarily for polymer-based products and technologies.

    The Manager/Analytical Chemist will utilize strong technical expertise and leadership skills to deliver analytical excellence in a broad range of standard and advanced analytical techniques to internal customers. This will include the management of broad non-routine analytical requests, as well as the participation in research and development projects from idea conception through product commercialization, in dynamic and cross-functional teams.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Provide leadership and technical direction for analytical team to prioritize and meet the technical needs of internal clients - R&D, technical marketing, and process chemistry.

    Solve analytical challenges by consulting and guiding technical clients from R&D, technical marketing and process chemistry

    Review, evaluate, and interpret analytical data, reports, and manuscripts of analytical team

    Develop, qualify, and validate new analytical methods and transfer methods from other Danimer Scientific locations.

    Maintain, adjust, and grow the technical capabilities of the analytical organization to meet the customer’s current and future needs and to keep state-of-art analytical capabilities, including maintenance, budgeting and procurement of instrumentation

    Initiate and conduct continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve quality and enhance the contribution of the analytical team

    Collaborate with Danimer Scientific’s analytical organization to further expand analytical service capabilities

    Guide in collaborating with external analytical labs.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience

    PhD, Master’s degree in Analytical chemistry or related disciplines required: Ph.D. preferred.

    PhD with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in industry or MS degree with 7 or more years of relevant experience in industry is required.

    Strong leadership and project management skills; management or supervisor experience in a laboratory setting for at least 3 years.

    Extensive knowledge and experience with using analytical tools including GC, DSC, GC/MS, HPLC, FTIR, ICP, GPC, SEC; including calibration and instrument maintenance .

    Expertise in development and validation of analytical methods for analysis of small molecules, polymers, and surfaces.

    Considerable knowledge of laboratory safety policies and practices.

    Knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, cost control, and project management.

    Excellent organization and skills, sufficient to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Must be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

    Knowledge of polymer chemistry, understanding of statistical tools such as DoE is a plus.

    Strong oral and written communication skills required.

    Ability to creatively problem solving, lead investigations and decision making skills are required.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Proficient in chemical and analytical laboratory operations

    Knowledge of the multidisciplinary principles and advanced techniques of biology, molecular biology, chemistry, physics, math, and statistics.

    Skill in the operation of laboratory equipment and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

    Ability to conduct advanced analyses and tests; to interpret test results; to prepare reports; to develop procedures; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

    Proficient in handling non-pathogenic biological objects and chemical agents

    Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail.

    Proficient in using computers with Windows Operating System including Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

    Ability to work independently within a team structure

    Stays current on all applicable SOP, safety, human resource, and annual laboratory quality related training

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers

    Prior experience using LIMS systems a plus.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    Work is performed in a chemical and analytical laboratory setting. In the laboratory setting there will be handle non-pathogenic biological objects and chemical agents.

    Work is performed using office equipment with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office and laboratory equipment.

    Requires walking, climbing stairs, bending and occasional lifting of material up to fifty (50) pounds

    Performance of this position will require exposure to laboratory hazards which require the use of personal protective equipment

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
