Summary and Purpose
The Research Process Operator/Technician I is responsible for operating an extrusion machine. The Research Process Operator/Technician I will perform various operator duties as directed by the production supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with research projects as assigned
Proficient in extrusion
Accurately perform QC/QA testing to determine acceptable and unacceptable extrusions
Accurately complete paperwork / documentation
Perform basic extrusion troubleshooting
Maintain qualified operator status
Runs Product Development samples (extrusions) when assigned and identify/communicate inconsistencies
Proficiency in machine breakdowns and set-ups
Follow all Process Instructions, Specification Boards, SOP’s, Work Instructions and Danimer Scientific’s Quality Policy and other related documents
Provide ongoing communication to supervisor on all manufacturing issues within the production area
Comply with safety rules and regulations as required
Transport materials
Housekeeping tasks
Package finished materials
Accurately mix raw materials for experiments
QC prep
Complete PM tasks
Other duties may be assigned

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
Education and Experience- Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Associate’s degree in a technical science preferred (i.e. Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology)
1-3 years of experience in an extrusion manufacturing environment

Must have a mechanical aptitude
Strong computer literacy especially in Microsoft Office applications

Able to drive manual transmission box truck
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in a normal office setting and on a pilot-scale production floor. In the office setting, there will be minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment. Production floor setting will result in exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, powders/dust, and oily coolants. Requires walking, climbing, bending, and lifting of material up to 50 pounds.
The performance of this position will require daily exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts days/nights weekends and holidays as required.
