Danimer Scientific has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Cost Accounting (DCA). This role will oversee cost and inventory accounting at all company sites and may be based either in Winchester, Kentucky, or Bainbridge, Georgia. Each site works semi-independently with a Cost Accounting Manager who is responsible for maintaining the cost at the site while reporting to the DCA.
The DCA will foster a culture of continuous improvement in the finance function at the manufacturing locations and provide the guidance and direction necessary to improve effectiveness and overall performance. The DCA will work closely with FP&A and corporate accounting to develop and report on key operational metrics.
This individual must be extremely intelligent, personable, dynamic and innovative, with exceptional analytical skills, and one who deploys an energetic day-to-day “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the accounting for inventory and product cost. Maintain the standard cost system, report on operating variances from standard, establish appropriate E&O reserves and reconcile the book to perpetual inventory values. Standardize and formalize processes and procedures across Company locations.
Perform formal time studies as required with operations team
Activate and cost roll new items within Microsoft Dynamics 365
Work closely with operations team to ensure all intercompany inventory transfers are properly handled
Monitor monthly inventory transactions for accuracy and appropriateness and report on operating variances from established standards for material, labor and overhead
Assist in the planning of the annual physical inventory as well as perpetual counts, calculate the physical to book adjustment
Spearhead the transition from paper-based to electronic work orders and other process documentation
Work closely with operations team to develop and report on meaningful KPI’s. Specifically creating work center productivity reports and monthly review with the Plant Managers
Work closely with operations to maintain and implement internal controls to safeguard the company’s inventory
Assist in the month-end closing process – oversee the preparation and posting of assigned journal entries as well as the completion of balance sheet reconciliations. Ensure that all transactions are recorded in a timely manner, in accordance with the monthly closing calendar.
Assess procedures and identify opportunities for improvements
Assist in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget
Perform Financial Analysis on company operations and for special projects
Oversee the implementation of inventory, warehouse management and cost accounting processes in Microsoft Dynamics 365
Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Work Experience - minimum of 12 years of experience in accounting with responsibility for cost accounting
Knowledgeable of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
Proficiency with costing standards, cost systems and variance analysis.
Attention to detail, proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Good written and verbal communication skills
ERP System experience (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred)
Experience in biotech / fermentation industry a plus
Must be proficient in MS Office software - Word & Excel
Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
