  • Responsibilities

    Since 2007, Dark Heart Nursery (DHN) has specialized in cultivating high quality clones for growers across California. Our years of experience allow us to produce premium clones from both popular and emerging genetic lines that perform well in a variety of settings. In 2020 DHN is expanding into additional facilities to bring on more capacity and to lower the cost of production. DHN has operated a cannabis tissue culture lab since 2014 and is now further developing the plant biotech side of the business into plant pathology, virus eradication, and breeding. It is an exciting time to join the team at DHN as we look to scale the business and dominate the cannabis nursery space.

    The Staff Accountant will work closely with a second Staff accountant and as a team they are responsible for AP, AR, bookkeeping, coordinating with the CPA, payroll, and reporting. The ideal candidate will collaborate with other executive staff on top level business projects and priorities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

    ACCOUNTING

    • Receive and enter invoices;
    • Manage Concur invoice and expense processing system;
    • Issue timely payments;
    • Manage complex cash payment systems;
    • Manage account balances to ensure funds availability for payments.

    BOOKKEEPING

    • Process receipts for credit card or cash transactions;
    • Reconcile bank accounts;
    • Reconcile credit card accounts;
    • Reconcile cash accounts;
    • Generate reports as required.
    • Payroll Administration.
    • Expense & Payment request administration;
    • Use concur system to manage approvals and process staff expenses.

    TAX

    • Review / Finalize books at year end for tax;
    • Coordinate with CPA concerning tax needs;
    • Prepare 1099s;

    PAYROLL AND EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT

    • Process timecards;
    • Process payroll with ADP;

    MANAGERIAL

    • Generate EOM reports;
    • Help prepare annual budget;
    • Administer budget variance reports;
    • Design and administer financial control systems (charge-backs, purchase orders, etc);
    • Provide pro-forma analysis on proposed projects.

    IT

    • Work with the controller to implement company-wide Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP deployment
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar experience,
    • Master’s degree or ongoing educaotin preferred.
