Job Description
The Technical Manager’s primary responsibility is to provide technical expertise to the Darlington Fabrics Color Laboratory, Dye House and Finishing Departments. Responsible for oversight of the dyeing and finishing operations at Darlington Fabrics. Provide technical expertise to R&D and Quality, whether for new product development or to resolve a quality/customer dispute.
- Setup dyes by class to improve Darlington's dye selection.
- Develop dye and chemical recipes that will satisfy customer requirement and function in a production environment. Key metric for lab performance: “right 1st time" formulations lab to bulk.
- Develop new processes as well as troubleshoot existing processes to improve performance, efficiencies and costs.
- Work diligently to take cost out of development, process and production as it relates to dyes and chemicals.
- Utilize the Datacolor color computer for dye formula creation and formula correction programs.
- Apply a high sense of urgency when a new or existing product has quality problems. Determine priorities based on orders and accept direction and input as necessary from planning, sales, R&D, QA.
- Use, and be familiar with, Textile industry supply chain to aid in product development and raw material procurement.
- Ensure compliance with Government Environmental regulations as they pertain to waste water, air and the dyes and chemicals used at the facilities. This includes town, state and federal reporting, permit/licensing and compliance.
- Support ISO9001:2015 by applying policies and procedures that comply with the department audit requirements. Execute proper document control and ensure employees in the department are performing their jobs according to the documented Roles and Responsibilities.
- Attend bi-weekly meeting with planning and production to determine lab priorities. Participate in weekly Quality meetings.
- Manage and direct the work of the Color Lab Manager and Process Engineer
REQUIREMENTS
• B.S. degree in Textile Science or Chemistry.
• Minimum 5 years of technical management experience in textiles.
• Previous experience in a textile manufacturing or related industry required
• Exposure to/involvement with Textile Chemistry a plus
• Knowledge of warp knit elastic fabrics and warp knit fabric processing a plus
• Knowledge of narrow woven elastic fabrics and narrow fabric processing a plus
• Basic understanding of nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex dyeing and finishing required.
• Understanding dyeing equipment including Jets, A-Beams, P-Beams, Continuous Calender and Continuous Pad/Steam. • • Working knowledge of Data Color Spectrophotometer a plus
