Data Analytics Specialist
USADA is seeking a dedicated and driven person to help our organization fulfill its mission to "Stand with athletes to champion their right to clean sport, inspire true and healthy sport, and promote the integrity of sport.” This is an incredibly exciting time to join Team USADA, as we continue to grow our Anti-Doping program and work to support major international competitions such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2026 (Milan), and 2028 (Los Angeles). New team members will have the chance to help ensure USADA is well-positioned in the near and long term for these opportunities as we look to the future with our efforts to protect clean athletes. With the 2028 Games on domestic soil, there will also be opportunities and growth potential over the years for USADA team members to underpin the organizing committee’s commitment to a clean Games.

JOB SUMMARY: As a member of the Science and Research Team, you are responsible for leading USADA’s data analytics and reporting strategy and lead cross-functional projects to strengthen anti-doping deterrence and detection efforts. You act as a vital bridge between Science, IT and business operations, translating data through analytics and visualizations into creative and well-designed real-time solutions to drive USADA’s anti-doping program. You represent USADA in global collaborations, foster innovation and creativity, and promote a data-driven culture. You actively contribute to the daily operation, development and maintenance of the resources critical to the Science & Research team, and lead innovative projects with external collaborators.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Scientific & Risk Intelligence
Lead USADA’s data analytics and reporting strategy, delivering data-driven solutions, intuitive reporting, and cross-functional project management to support deterrence and detection, target testing and real-time risk analysis strategies.
Bridge IT and business needs by developing robust, compliant infrastructure, tailored digital solutions, and optimized data flows to support analytical and operational priorities.
Direct product development, data pipelines, models, automated processes, and ensure maintenance of analytics resources.
Apply advanced statistical techniques such as data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, and AI to identify patterns, trends, and correlations in large, structured datasets gathered through athlete performance, biological data or other relevant metrics, generating actionable outcomes for anti-doping strategies.
Design, build, and oversee dashboards, reports, validation of data, and visualization tools to provide timely insights and empower decision-making.
Identify, evaluate and maintain the most robust and informative data sets (performance metrics, etc...) to inform meaningful risk assessment strategies.
Conduct substance reviews, open-source research, scientific literature reviews, and prepare technical reports, presentations, and briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
Support scientific and testing strategies by maintaining sample retention/reanalysis programs, compiling reference material, and contributing to risk assessment strategies.
Represent USADA in global collaborations, foster relationships, and promote a data-driven culture through innovation and effective communication.
Create reports and track testing progress of specific Team USA athletes leading into major events (e.g. Olympics / Paralympics) to inform Testing and Science decisions in critical pre games periods.
Maintain the Declaration Review Tool to assist the Drug Reference team with declaration reviews.
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with the Science Team and other anti-doping experts to create and evaluate individual athlete test profiles, including researching open-source internet databases and other sources to support individual and sport-based evaluations.
Work with project personnel, to include vendors, partners, and clients to ensure project deadlines are met.
Collaborate with colleagues in USADA to identify business requirements and how these can be included within a subsequent Data Analytics Strategy
With support of the Director of Science, lead projects with outside collaborators to advance USADA’s athlete and sport risk assessment strategies and cooperate with other anti-doping organizations to learn and share data analytics expertise.
Attend and present at scientific meetings and conferences as necessary to remain knowledgeable about the latest sport performance analytics, data analytics trends, and statistical and programming methodology and software tools.
Represent USADA and contribute to online discussions and working groups of international data analytics working groups within the anti-doping community
Data Engineering Partnership & Delivery
Collaborate closely with the Principal Data Engineer for production analytics: data pipelines, model services, feature stores, and versioned datasets. Optimize and trouble shoot database performance.
Contribute to scalable data architecture decisions (batch/stream, orchestration, storage, governance) with a security-by-design mindset.
Define transformation logic, and quality validation tests that ensure reliable ingestion, processing, and lineage.
Assist with and update project plans for technology projects, including project objectives, requirements, specifications, schedules, systems impacted, and personnel impacted
Work with project personnel, including vendors, partners, and clients to ensure project deadlines are met.
Data Quality, Governance & Compliance
Work with the Principal Data Engineer on all data quality and governance issues.
GENERAL:
Projects and duties as assigned.
Recommend necessary updates and revisions to USADA protocol and procedures as needed
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Maintain up-to-date job-specific standard operating procedures
Comply with the USADA quality management system, including adhering to data sharing and data protection policies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in the life sciences (chemistry, physiology, molecular biology), data or forensic science and/or statistics
Demonstrated work experience with data analytics on real-world data sets
Programming knowledge in Python, R, Matlab and other programming languages
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with data visualization and reporting solutions (Power BI and others)
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work accurately, under high pressure
Ability to work with various levels of management in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to clearly communicate data analytics outcomes to all levels of staff and interact effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders
Ability to multitask and to work accurately under pressure
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work flexible hours, as needed
Advanced proficiency in MS Programs (Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Ability to analyze and interpret large data sets using statistical software
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in data Analytics or Computer Science, or equivalent, with demonstrated experience in programming, data analytics and data reporting
Doping Control procedure knowledge
Work experience in and a passion for sport and fair play
Knowledge of, and interest in, performance enhancing substances and methods in sport
Experience working within Azure Cosmos DB and AWS cloud environments and managing data flows
Programming expertise in Python, R, or other common analytics language
Experience with 2d graphing software tools such as GraphPad Prism
