Data Scientist I, Analytics
A supporting-level team member who consistently applies analytics capabilities, principles and playbooks to solve business issues and opportunities, with close supervisory review.
What you will do:
- Design simple experiments.
- Consistently makes use of data visualization principles.
- Uses charts, formatting and customizing, ensuring labeling, titling and other fundamentals are present and effective.
- Uses color palettes beyond the basics.
- Considers good use of typography in visualizations.
- Go beyond the basics with UX/UI, makes good use of white space and considers the end user experience in their design.
- Collaborate with peers within teams, bearing team and company goals in mind.
- Proactively contributes to cross team collaboration ensuring best available information is included in analysis and shares findings with peers and leader.
- Articulates solutions, methodologies, and frameworks in a clear and concise way to both technical and non-technical partners.
- Extracts data from multiple data sources and combines into the required datasets for model building or analytics.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the data available, the data generation process and the importance of data quality. Finds and raises data issues.
- Conducts exploratory data profiling techniques, produces crosstabs, common summary descriptive statistics, etc.
- Applies software design principles, data structures, algorithms and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized and modular with good naming conventions.
- Demonstrates capability of framing a business problem as an analytics problem and concrete set of analytical tasks.
- Displays good domain (i.e. travel, online retail) knowledge, business acumen (understanding the underlying business objectives), curiosity and critical reasoning skills.
- Picks analytically valid approaches, appropriate in terms of level of effort, favoring iterative delivery that solves for the objective, not the ask (i.e. not just order-taking). Uses good understanding of the business problem space to inform the design of the solution.
- Manages stakeholders with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and minimizing surprises.
- Automates repeated measurement and reporting tasks and build scalable dashboards to cover multiple scenarios.
Who you are:
- 0-1+ years experience for Bachelor's or equivalent.
- Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience; Mathematics, Science, Statistics degree or a related Technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience is applicable.
- Typical entry grade for Bachelor's with limited or no experience.
- Developed and drove change and performance improvement from data-driven insights.
- And/or built and maintained a data science project/product in production environments.
- Able to have critical thinking

- Visualization of data for impact
- Familiar with the basics of big data architecture (e.g. streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models.
- Able to apply basic probabilistic thinking to business problems.
- Demonstrates intuitive grasp of probability and probability distributions.
- Uses descriptive statistics appropriately.
- Applies most commonly used hypothesis tests with awareness of underlying assumptions.
- Possesses basic understanding of model design and can suggest selection, including general approach, choice of algorithm and data sources.
- Displays good domain (i.e. travel, online retail) knowledge, business acumen (understanding the underlying business objectives) and critical reasoning skills.
- Is familiar with EG visualization tool ecosystem and able to use most features to create charts.
- Possesses knowledge of SQL basics such as: SELECT...FROM...ORDER BY, JOINS, WHERE (AND OR NOT IN), GROUP BY.
The total cash range for this position in Austin and Seattle is $86,000.00 to $120,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $137,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
