    SENIOR DATA ENGINEER

    Datalere team members lead by example, focus on customer needs, and have a thirst to learn all they can about data. Successful candidates are self-starters and never shy away from challenges.

    We need team members that excel when working directly with clients to meet their goals. They understand the client's needs and requirements and build a collaborative environment to ensure a successful project delivery. Specifically, Datalere is looking for a senior data engineer who has some knowledge of application development and is familiar with application development best practices.

    Responsibilities

    • Highly familiar/comfortable with dimensional and columnar data warehouses
    • Follows application development best practices, such as source control, continuous integration, and test-driven development
    • Knowledge of common databases, such as one of the following: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, RedShift, BigQuery, or other similar transactional or columnar database
    • Understanding of database, query, code, and ETL performance tuning in that you can generally understand why one query, ETL package, or block of code is superior to another based on how the technology works
    • Experience using RESTful APIs
    • Experience building data pipelines using common ETL tools, such as one of the following: SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Spark, or other similar ETL tool
    • Can communicate findings to clients in an easy-to-understand way, in the form of client-ready technical documentation, emails, or presentations, keeping the technical aptitude of the client in mind
    • Engages with clients professionally and politely and has an interest in learning standard consulting techniques, such as how to manage a client's expectations, how to draft discussion aids, etc.
    • Writes code in SQL (required) in addition to at least one of the following: C#, Java, .Net, Python, or similar coding language
    • Has a minimum of 5 years of experience in a data-focused role, such as a data engineer, a business intelligence engineer, a database engineer, a big data engineer, or an application developer in a data-focused role
    • Works and learns both efficiently and independently and has the ability to work with unfamiliar tools and a broad set of techniques. Is able to teach other teach other team members about newly learned tools/techniques
    • Thinks logically, can see the big picture for each individual assignment, and generally understands what actions to take as it pertains to data engineering or application development assignments with help from an architect
    • Learns new concepts, tools, or languages related to the data space easily, especially as it relates to data engineering, big data, cloud offerings, or languages
    • A strong preference will be given to candidates with previous consulting experience
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, mathematics or similar technical subject area
    • Experience working in the cloud (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is a plus. A strong preference will be given to candidates with a pre-existing Microsoft, AWS, or Google Cloud certification
    • Willing to work hard to meet client deadlines, on an as-needed basis, in exchange for liberal paid-time-off and work-from-home policies during less busy time periods
    • Is able to commute to client sites throughout the front range on an as-needed basis for meetings, demos, and sprint reviews
    • Prior experience working with common business intelligence tools, such as Power BI or Tableau is a plus. The desire to learn how to develop dashboards in Power BI or Tableau is required
    • Familiarity with big data platforms and tools, such as Hadoop, is a plus
    • Familiarity with agile project methodology, including the concept of user stories, scrum boards, sprints, etc. is a plus
