Position: Health and Wellness Coordinator
Reports to: Camp Director
Time Commitment: M-F (40 hours/week); 6/1/26 - 7/31/26
Compensation: $20/hr
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Day Camp Health and Wellness Coordinator ensures the health, safety, and
well-being of all campers and staff. This role includes providing first aid and medical care, administering
medications, triaging emergencies and maintaining records throughout our dynamic outdoor
environment. Our camp health and wellness coordinator also gets to contribute to the fun, community
atmosphere of camp life, helping create a safe and vibrant environment where campers can thrive.
Responsibilities & Expectations
Professionalism & Collaboration
● Arrive well-rested, on time, and maintain consistent attendance for the full 8-week session.
● Communicate necessary absences with as much advance notice as possible.
● Build respectful and professional relationships with campers, families, and staff.
● Support and uphold the mission, philosophy, and policies of The Discovery School Day Camp.
● Approach challenges with creativity, problem-solving, and a sense of humor.
● Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive medical and personal information.
Health & Safety
● Document medical incidents and communicate promptly with parents/guardians.
● Follow all camp health and safety guidelines and applicable state regulations regarding abuse or
neglect.
● Remain calm and follow emergency protocols in all situations.
● Lift, move, or support children (~50 lbs or more) as needed.
● Stay familiar with camper names, approved pick-ups, allergies, lunch choices, and other relevant
health information.
Operational & Clinical Responsibilities
● Use the Jumbula app to access camper health profiles and communicate with families.
● Review all camper health records weekly, including allergies, chronic conditions, and medication
needs.
● Ensure the health office is fully stocked, organized, and ready for use (first aid kits, burn cream,
stingkill, bandaids, tweezers, etc.).
● Communicate regularly with kitchen staff regarding food allergies and menu ingredients.
● Assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses (cuts, scrapes, insect bites, allergic reactions,
dehydration, sunburns, etc.).
● Promote general wellness: hygiene, healthy habits, sanitation, and preventive health behaviors.
● Administer prescription medications according to schedules and physician orders, including for
chronic conditions.
● Maintain accurate and confidential health records, treatment logs, and medication logs for campers
and staff.
● Provide triage and emergency care for serious incidents; coordinate with EMS or local hospitals as
needed.
● Identify and mitigate environmental risks: pond safety, water-related accidents, wildlife
encounters, and trail hazards.
● Offer emotional support and reassurance to campers experiencing stress or anxiety.
● Collaborate with the camp director, counselors, and staff to maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive
environment.
Supportive & Community Role
● Participate in camp activities as appropriate without compromising medical duties.
● Serve as an on-call substitute when needed.
Qualifications
** Qualifications & Requirements**
● Must have a genuine desire to serve children and families.
● Experience working with youth populations preferred (school nursing, pediatrics, camp, etc.).
● Ability to manage and document medical records, medication logs, and health history forms.
● Strong communication skills: ability to interact effectively with campers, parents, staff, and
external medical professionals.
● Comfortable in outdoor environments: walking, standing, bending, lifting moderate weight, and
moving across uneven terrain.
● Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, informed decisions in emergencies (injuries,
allergic reactions, wildlife encounters, water accidents).
● Must obtain and maintain all necessary clearances (see below).
● Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively.
Desirable Attributes
● Experience with wilderness and outdoor medicine, environmental risks, water safety, and wildlife
(insects, snakes) on a nature campus.
● Ability to train and orient staff in basic first aid, water safety, wildlife awareness, and emergency
response.
● Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
● Empathy, patience, and positivity; strong ability to provide reassurance and support to children.
● Commitment to preventive health practices: sun protection, hydration, hygiene, insect/animal
safety, and pond/water awareness.

● Clearances and Act 31 training must be valid through August 1 , 2026.
Other Requirements:
● CPR/first-aid certified: included and paid for in summer camp staff training week
