  • Responsibilities

    Position Summary:

    The Day Habilitation Staff is responsible for providing support, supervision, and structured activities to individuals with developmental disabilities in a group home or community-based day program. The goal is to promote independence, enhance life skills, and improve the quality of life for each participant through engaging and meaningful programming.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Direct Support & Supervision

    Provide hands-on support and supervision to individuals in all scheduled day activities.

    Assist participants with personal care, mobility, feeding, and hygiene as needed.

    Maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment for all program participants.

    Skill Development & Engagement

    Implement individual habilitation plans (IHPS) and document progress toward goals.

    Lead or assist with activities that promote daily living skills, communication, socialization, and community integration.

    Encourage participant involvement in recreational, vocational, and educational programs.

    Community Integration

    Accompany individuals on outings such as grocery shopping, parks, libraries, and volunteer opportunities.

    Promote independence and inclusion by supporting appropriate community behavior and interaction.

    Documentation & Reporting

    Accurately complete daily logs, progress notes, and incident reports.

    Monitor and report changes in participants' behavior, health, or needs to the appropriate supervisor or medical personnel.

    Follow all documentation protocols and privacy guidelines (e.g., HIPAA compliance).

    Team Collaboration

    Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and case managers.

    Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service workshops.

    Participate in the development and review of individual support plans.

    Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; additional education in human services or related fields preferred.

    Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a similar caregiving role is preferred.

    Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (if required for transportation duties).

    Ability to lift, transfer, and physically assist individuals as needed.

    Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.

    Must pass background check and health/TB screening.

    CPR, First Aid, and other state-required certifications (can often be obtained after hire).

    Working Conditions:

    Day shift hours, typically Monday through Friday.

    Work is conducted in a home-like setting and/or in the community.

    Physical activity including lifting, walking, and assisting with mobility.
