    Day Zero Diagnostics (DZD) is an exciting startup revolutionizing infectious disease diagnostics, by leveraging cutting-edge sample prep technologies, whole genome sequencing and machine learning. We are building the next generation of IVDs, able to perform comprehensive bacterial species ID and antimicrobial resistance and susceptibility (AMR/S) profiling in less than 8 hours of sample receipt, without the need for culture.

    Day Zero is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join its Product Realization team. This role will report directly to the VP of Product Realization and support DZD's efforts to develop its commercial IVD diagnostics. The responsibility is to support the product realization team in all aspects of product development.. The Mechanical engineer can expect to be involved in activities ranging from generating prototypes in Solidworks, hands on building of prototypes, supplier evaluations, and bench testing.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Leading the consumable product development life cycle from vision and design, to manufacturing scale up
    • Determining the right embodiment of the product, collaborating with sequencing partners, competitive benchmarking, KOL input, and costing
    • With support from DZD engineering partners, lead the engineering development activities relating to consumable development and instrument integration, including project management where necessary
    • Outline detailed mechanical design activities and choose supplier selection for custom and OTS components
    • Collaborate with the instrument development team to ensure successful integration

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BS in mechanical engineering, master's preferred
    • Hands-on experience with the ability to concept ideas, develop prototypes, test, and iterate is required
    • Solidworks experience, for machine design components
    • Highly motivated and independent, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong oral and written communications skills
