Job Description
DeHay & Elliston, LLP (DeHay), a nationally recognized litigation law firm is in search of a Controller in our downtown Dallas office. This position requires a candidate who possess a BA Degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of five years of work experience in the Controller or Accounting Manager position. Law firm experience and CPA certification is preferred.
The Controller position is a professional leadership role at DeHay that communicates directly to senior leaders of the firm. This role is responsible for directing the multi-office financial accounting and financial planning & analysis functions for DeHay.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for establishing & implementing business processes that will improve the overall operation & effectiveness of the accounting function.
- Provide day to day guidance on a pro-active basis to all functions within the Accounting department to ensure business & process issues are handled timely & effectively.
- Management of the financial accounting team.
- Preparation of accurate & timely financial statements.
- Billing oversight, collections, cash flow, cost containment.
- Financial forecasting & analysis.
- Implementation & management of internal controls.
- Oversight of tax reporting.
- Responsible for the month end closing, including account analysis and reconciliations.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the accounts payable process.
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
- Be the focal point for the various external audits.
- Identify and drive process improvements.
- Accomplishes accounting human resource objectives by selecting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Manage the day to day banking relationships and treasury responsibilities.
- Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Ad hoc reports & projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Minimum of 5 years in an accounting leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Strong analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates initiative, client focused and ability to collaborate across company functions.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to focus on achieving key results.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong aptitude of financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- CPA, preferred
The salary range for this position is $100k to $110k and is commensurate with experience.
