Independent Living Specialist / Skill builder Full-time (37.5 hour workweek) Charlottesville, VA
JOB SUMMARY
The Independent Living "IL" Specialist - Skill builder acts as a coach and teacher to young adults with varied emotional, behavioral, and educational needs living in a supported IL Apartment program. The IL Skill Builder serves as a positive role model for the youth and supports them in achieving their independent living goals leading toward self-sufficiency. Must be organized, multi-task, and keep documentation up to date. Must be able to be a team player and support the work of the IL Specialist Case Managers. Must reflect and uphold DePaul's mission and FIRST values.
TRAINING, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in a human services field is required, plus one year of experience providing casework services to children and families and one additional year of related experience or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. A degree in a human services field may include social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, psychiatric or vocational rehabilitation, special education, and gerontology. Additional degrees related to human services may be considered after reviewing the college transcript. The employee must participate in New Hire Orientation and New Worker Training, Crisis Intervention Training, Building Attachments with Caregiver Training, First Aid/CPR, Medication Management, and In-Service training, plus 20 hours of training per year obtained in the community.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The applicant must have a valid driver's license for at least five years. The applicant must submit before hiring a current MVR (Motor Vehicle Record/seven-year report) and possess a driving record that complies with DePaul policy. The applicant shall not have been convicted of any barrier crime(s) on the criminal background report. The applicant will have no founded disposition of child abuse or neglect as documented by the Child Protective Services (CPS) background report. The applicant must occasionally lift a minimum of 25 pounds, assist physically dependent individuals, and provide crisis intervention when appropriate with proper certifications. Must have and use personal transportation. The work schedule includes regular business hours and may consist of afternoons, evenings, and as needed. The applicant must be willing to be on-call periodically to provide emergency casework coverage.
A hybrid work arrangement, a combination of telework and onsite work, may be available.
Compensation depends on qualifications and experience.
