    TV MASTER CONTROL OPERATOR - TWO PART-TIME POSITIONS (MORNING OR AFTERNOON HOURS) 

    New Evangelization Television (NET) is a faith-based cable channel that broadcasts original programming including Currents, our flagship nightly news show, Daily and Sunday Catholic Mass in multiple languages. NET is available in the New York area on Optimum (channel 30), Spectrum (channel 97), and FiOS of Verizon (channel 48).  We aim to inform, entertain and inspire our viewers.  NET is part of DeSales Media Group, the communications and technology arm of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn in New York.

    Position Responsibilities

    The Master Control Operator is responsible for monitoring the quality and integrity of our on-air signals and program schedule as well as ensuring the transmission meets government regulations and the station's technical standards.  This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

    Duties will include, but are not limited to:

    • Perform on-air switching for live events.
    • Perform technical check-ins of news, production, and remote venue productions prior to air.
    • Coordinate with news, production and remote venue control rooms for the start and end of Live broadcasts, as well as commercial breaks.
    • Operate recording and ingest systems, satellite receivers, and computer-based systems.
    • Operate the automation playlist and play to air server systems.
    • Prepare and check programming material for on-air playback via automation system.
    • Verify all material airing by referencing program logs.
    • Monitor on-air signals for quality control using broadcast test equipment and systems.
    • Anticipate and troubleshoot issues when they occur.
    • Provide high-level customer support and service to News and Production.
    • Communicate and interface daily with Programming.
    • Provide a daily report of on-air discrepancies. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Experience/Qualifications:

    Required:

    College degree or technical certification in a related field, or 3-5 years experience as a master control operator. 

    Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task, remain calm under duress, and know when to escalate issues to the Master Control Supervisor or to Engineering.  Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as excellent command of both written and verbal English.   Must work well in a team environment, be self-motivated, and a fast learner.  Exhibit a professional attitude at all times and be able to perform in a high-pressure environment.  Possess strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. 

    Must possess the requisite knowledge of television standards (NTSC, ATSC) and formats (SD/HD-SDI) to assess technical quality of audio and video signals.

    Must have experience using television test and monitoring equipment (waveform monitors, vectorscopes, audio level meters).

    Proficient using both Mac O/S and Windows PCs.

    Preferred:

    Knowledge and experience operating Crispin playlist automation, Harmonic Spectrum X play to air server.  Knowledge of modern file-based workflows is also desirable. 

    Hours:

    This position requires the ability to work variable hours including weekends, nights, and holidays.

    Salary:

    This is a Part-time, hourly position.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
