    OVERVIEW:

    NET-TV in Brooklyn is looking for an experienced, dynamic, charismatic, and energetic, journalist to anchor its flagship news program, Currents News, in the number-one T.V. market. The ideal candidate is an already established news anchor or experienced reporter who is working in the secular news world and who wants to make the leap to an environment that reports on all the day's news (secular and religious) from the Catholic perspective. This is an opportunity to do traditional journalism… the kind that wins awards and makes a difference. The anchor will be a news junkie, always keeping up to date on current events, trends, and newsmakers. They will have a strong grasp on history, and the teachings of the Church. This candidate will be a natural interviewer and can ask follow-up questions on the fly. They will be a leader in the newsroom, contributing to the day-to-day editorial process led by the executive producer. They will write packages, prepare for in-studio interviews, update scripts so that they are in “their voice,” and work with the E.P. and line producer to record the newscast daily. The anchor represents the station publicly and will make appearances. In addition to anchoring the newscast, they will anchor breaking news and rolling coverage of papal trips. They will also record promos and work with the digital news department to implement our social media strategy.

    POSITION: ANCHOR – CURRENTS NEWS

    RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

    • Work with producers to build the newscast, which includes writing voice over copy, anchor packages and presenting the material on camera
    • Maintain a pleasant, energetic, and professional on-air appearance.
    • Ability to read teleprompter with ease and ad-lib effortlessly
    • Attend editorial meetings, pitch story ideas, and develop and research stories.
    • Occasionally work with the special projects department on report that may require field shoots.
    • Stay up to date on all current events, trends, and opinions impacting the community
    • Work with the interview producer to research and prepare for on-set and satellite interviews
    • Record promos and news updates
    • Anchor breaking news coverage and rolling news coverage of papal trips
    • Be a newsroom leader and mentor for less experienced colleagues
    • Build relationships with the community and make public appearance on behalf of NET-TV
    • Be active on social media pages to connect with community and audience

    BACKGROUND, SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS:

    • Degree in journalism, broadcast news, mass communications, or equivalent
    • 7-10+ years of experience reporting and/or anchoring news in a medium to large market
    • Exceptional news judgment and ability to handle sensitive topics
    • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
    • Experience working on digital platforms with ability share content on social media
    • Strong and proven ability to multi-task and to work under deadlines
    • Strong working knowledge of Catholic Church, teachings, and traditions
    • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
