Position: Reporter (The Tablet Newspaper)

Overview
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn's award-winning weekly newspaper, The Tablet, is looking for a journalist who can easily transition from writing breaking news to enterprising compelling stories. The reporter in this role will be comfortable working under deadline pressure in a multi-platform environment that includes print and digital distribution. The Tablet, in print since 1908, has a circulation of 40,000 and is part of a larger news group that includes the Spanish-language newspaper, Nuestra Voz, the nightly newscast Currents News, and a digital department that produces original social media content. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of working as a published journalist with some photography experience.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Write articles, captions, and headlines
• Pitch stories
• Travel to story locations
• Develop contacts
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and afterhours, as needed
• Stay up to date on all news including secular and faith-based topics (local, national, and international)
• Upload your stories to the website using SEO practices
• Meet tight deadlines
• Take professional photos

Experience/Skills

• 1+ years as reporter
• Degree in journalism, English, or equivalent
• Excellent print writing skills and knowledge of the AP style
• Ability to multitask
• Thrives in a deadline-driven environment
• Knowledge of InDesign/InCopy a plus
• WordPress
• Knowledge of the Catholic faith
