OVERVIEW:
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn's award-winning weekly newspaper, The Tablet, is looking for a creative, hardworking and detail-oriented associate managing editor. You will work in a team environment, collaborating closely with the managing editor to help produce The Tablet. You will also work with the assignment desk, the design/production department, and digital/social media department. The ideal candidate thrives under strict deadlines, has a passion for clear writing and an ability to shape stories to make them complete with a logical flow. The editor should have a strong knowledge of basic grammar and AP style and should be able to edit quickly while spotting and correcting mistakes. The preferred candidate will also have an eye for layout. He/she should have a sense of humor and be able to work well as part of a team. The Tablet—in print since 1908—has a circulation of almost 70,000. It is produced by laypeople, and its staff has full editorial control.

Services include media relations and strategy, marketing and social media, ad sales, educational support, video production, large events, and news content. Its news group produces a nightly television program, two award-winning newspapers (The Tablet and Nuestra Voz), and is growing its digital department, which produces original news and informational content. The news department is the only outlet in the country to offer extensive live coverage of papal trips and recently completed live coverage of World Youth Day in Panama, and more than 40 hours of live in-depth reporting World Meeting of Families. DeSales Media is growing. We will soon be moving into a new building, which includes a state-of-the-art newsroom and studio.
