    Taylor University is seeking applications of candidates for BUSINESS OFFICE ASSISTANT/CASHIER.This is a FULL-TIME, 12 MONTH, NON-EXEMPT position located in Upland, Indiana.  Resumes will be accepted until position is filled.

    The position of Business Office Assistant/Cashier reports to the Accounts Receivable Manager to assist in the areas of accounts receivable and other business office functions as listed below. This position functions as the primary backup to the Accounts Receivable Manager position.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE RELATED FUNCTIONS:

    Coordinating and completing all tasks related to miscellaneous receivables including but not limited to posting of telephone charges, food service receipts, campus store charges, conferences and other event receipts.

    Determining and posting late fees and/or interest charges to past due accounts.

    Making payment plan adjustments on the online student account suite.

    Processing alternative student loans EFT and check payments.

    Interacting with students and parents regarding student account questions.

    Posting of NSF and other returned checks to A/R or department accounts.

    Cashiering functions for all deposits, including daily balancing of the cash drawer.

    Managing the daily ACH check procedure utilizing the Remote Capture ACH program.

    Retaining appropriate documentation, including scanning and filing of documents and receipts.

    Posting of e-commerce receipts and e-commerce department deposits to A/R software.

    Verifying e-commerce funds receipt uploads to bank.

    Various internal audit procedures.

    Interacting with external loan processing service provider for Perkins and institutional loans.

    Reviewing daily mail and directing checks to processing departments: Advancement and A/R

    Performing necessary bank transfers related to student receipts in specific bank accounts.

    Performing upload posting processes of mass entries, such as bookstore charges.

    Assisting A/R Manager in preparing and processing 1098T forms, and fielding associated inquiries.

    Assisting Accounts Receivable Manager with financial audit requirements: samples testing, reports, etc.

     

    OTHER BUSINESS OFFICE FUNCTIONS:

    Matching of Accounts Payable checks to backup and preparation of checks for mailing or pickup.

    Processing and posting long distance phone charges attributable to departments and individuals.

    Reviewing and processing student expense reports and serving as the primary backup for all other expense reports.

    Processing petty cash reimbursement reports and issuing petty cash reimbursement.

     

    PERSONAL QUALITIES:

    The individual should have a strong customer orientation. The position requires initiative, strong decision making/judgement skills, ability to work with parents and students, accuracy and ethical behavior in order to accomplish assigned tasks. The individual should have good planning and organizing skills, and be able to multi-task in response to shifting priorities.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Degree not required. Strong basic bookkeeping skills and familiarity with basic business functions.

     

     

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

    REQUIRED:

    Basic bookkeeping skills: familiarity and experience with double-entry bookkeeping

    Familiarity with computer programs such as MS office products, Outlook.

    Familiarity with office machines, copiers, shredders, fax, and 10 key calculator.

     

    PREFERRED:

    Specific experience with Accounts Receivables in a higher education environment.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     

    The physical demands descried here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. 

     

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :

     

    Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office environment with frequent interruptions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required.  No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials needed to perform the job.  No special environmental issues beyond normal office and travel issues.
