    The Regional Sales Director will lead, inspire, coach, hire, and retain a team of Renal Sales Specialists.  The RSD will develop their team to be industry leading experts.  The ideal candidate is an energetic, driven sales leader with a history of success; achieving result by working collaboratively with the commercial team and their RSD peers to help Akebia achieve/exceed their sales goals. 

    Required Skills

    Responsibilities:

    • Attract, recruit, and retain top talent sales representatives.
    • Achieve/Exceed regional sales goals.
    • Lead a team of tenured sales representatives, ensuring they are clinically strong, have excellent selling skills, and can be successful in an account based selling environment.
    • Ensure representatives have clear expectations and are accountable to achieve performance goals.
    • Provide consistent, timely, and accurate performance feedback based on observations on key interactions as part of an overall performance management process.
    • Create a positive team culture that aligns to Akebia’s values.
    • Establishes consistency in leadership/management principles and practices across the region.
    • Develops sales strategies and tactics to support sales representatives and meet market challenges.
    • Actively participates as a member of the sales leadership team, to elevate the commercial effectiveness of the team. Partner with Marketing, Training, and Commercial Operations to best achieve Akebia’s goals.
    • Stay well versed and own a strong understanding of the payer mix, reimbursement environment. and key account strategies aligned to the region.
    • Ensure all team members are fully informed of, and in compliance with Akebia Therapeutics commercial compliance policies.
    • Significant Travel Required up to 60% of time.

     

    Core Competencies and Skill requirements:

    • Proven to be successful in all aspects of selling, i.e., sales techniques, data analysis, clinical acumen, medical and biopharmaceutical industry.
    • Ability to share vision and business trajectory within the organization and inspire commitment.
    • Has a consistent track record of developing highly successful region/district sales representatives.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging technology platforms and business tools to efficiently lead the team including topics of business planning, development, and other management needs.
    • Confidently leads product and disease state discussions during internal and external meetings.
    • Can multitask and work within cross-functional teams.
    • Approaches role as a business owner, considering cost/benefit aspects in decision making.

     

    Required Experience

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’ of Science/ Bachelor of Arts, preferably in science or business.
    • 10 years commercial experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
    • Demonstrated track record of success in goal achievement, leading teams, and developing talent.
    • Minimum of three years of pharmaceutical sales management experience.

     

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Renal and/or Specialty sales experience
    • Account based sales experience.
    • Work experience in start-up company or small biopharma, reflecting innovation and agility.
    • Headquarters experiences (or in-house rotations) in sales operations, marketing, training, or market access.
