Job Duties for a Diesel Mechanic
Diesel mechanics are responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. Their duties include:
Running diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to identify faults and analyze test results.
Replacing or repairing engine, steering, transmission, braking, and lighting system components.
Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks, including oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements.
Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles and adhering to inspection procedure checklists.
Managing parts inventory and ensuring the workshop remains organized.
Testing vehicles before and after repairs to verify performance and gauge reliability.
Participating in ongoing training and development programs to expand knowledge and skills.
Documenting all work performed, including parts used and time allocated for each repair.
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
