POSITION: CIVIL ENGINEER, CONSTRUCTION
LOCATION: LIBERTYVILLE, ILLINOIS
SALARY: $28.36 - $36.38 /HOUR, PLUS OVERTIME
HOURS: MONDAY – FRIDAY 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
HOURS AND DAYS OF WORK WILL VARY DURING THE MONTHS OF APRIL – NOVEMBER FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION SEASON
Becoming a Civil Engineer at the Lake County Division of Transportation will allow you to be involved with administrators, elected officials, engineers and other individuals ranging from consultants to regional transportation agencies. Your day will consist of working in the field and office. This position acts as the Resident Engineer on road construction projects; files daily program reports ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, proper construction record keeping and general project management You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep you interested and continuously learning.
To be successful in this role you should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in civil engineering and must possess a valid driver’s license. This position requires the application of professional engineering principles and practices to moderately difficult highway engineering projects. Assignments afford some opportunity for the independent planning of work details and some latitude for technical determination. Individuals must exercise sound professional judgment and strong analytical abilities; possess the ability to effectively problem solve, demonstrate strong project management and interpersonal skills, and can work both individually and in a team atmosphere.

Requires familiarity with routine operating procedures of equipment which can be set up and operated following a few step by step instructions and the skill to operate the equipment. Requires skill to perform minor clerical tasks incidental to the operation of the equipment (e.g., maintain machine operating and maintenance records, write new identification labels for computer tapes, etc.), and skill to perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating the equipment. Ability to identify if improper machine operation and make basic adjustments.
