    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting various aspects of decision-making and operational enhancement within Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) and its subsidiary businesses.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A post-secondary Bachelor degree from an accredited university in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or other acceptable field of study is required. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in a closely related field. Previous experience working in an electric utility is highly desirable but not required. Relevant professional certifications (e.g. CPA, CFA) are highly desirable but not required. The totality of qualifications may be weighed and substituted for certain requirements in the sole discretion of DMEA.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    In an efficient and professional manner, while living and demonstrating Company values and in accordance with the DMEA/IBEW Labor Agreement and DMEA Accident Prevention Manual:

    • Increases department productivity by identifying and driving process automation and optimization.
    • Supports the Finance and Accounting department in data analysis, validation and benchmarking.
    • Performs market research, data mining, business intelligence analytics and valuations.
    • Assists in preparing budgets, financial forecasts, econometric models, project analyses, rate case studies, cost of service studies and capital credit allocations.
    • Supports the internal and external audit functions.
    • Works closely with employees, members and contractors to ensure adherence to policies and contracts to deliver quality services.
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with the customers of Finance and Accounting, both internally and externally, with a focus on objective professionalism.
    • Ad hoc analysis and reporting functions pertaining to state and federal grants.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

    Verifiable proficiency using Microsoft Office is required. Must develop and maintain strong proficiency in any accounting software systems used by the Cooperative and its subsidiary businesses.

    Attention to accuracy and detail is imperative.

    Strong quantitative and analytical competencies are required.

    Individual must be a self-starting problem solver with strong interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral). Individual must be effective working both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, exercising sound judgment and strong commercial acumen.

    Individual should be comfortable working through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

    Ability to organize and track overlapping tasks and assignments with frequent priority changes. Must be able to implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures and goals, and; work under pressure in a growing enterprise with numerous deadlines and priorities.

    Requires the ability to understand the IBEW bargaining unit agreements and administrative policies and procedures to properly apply provisions.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position has contact with all levels of DMEA personnel, customers, and internal and external auditors. Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, ability to speak, and the ability to perform close work. Office equipment used occasionally includes personal computers, calculators, related software, copy machines, scanners, etc.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Close to 100% of the work performed is done indoors in an office setting. Occasional travel by Association vehicle and/or commercial means may be required. This exempt position requires flexibility to occasionally work overtime if and as needed.
