    Job Description

    The TOUR GUIDE operates a Hummer to transport guests to various tourist destinations.  Provides a fun, informative tour focused on customer satisfaction.  Tour Guides are safety minded, delivering information on natural and cultural resources while operating their vehicles in compliance with all Laws, Regulations, and Company Policies and Procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Conducts tours in a professional manner
    • Skilled driving on and off road; Safely operates the vehicle through challenging sand, varied terrain, in all types of weather conditions.
    • Has a general understanding of permits and operating plan.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of tour scheduling and tour rotation.
    • Reads and follows manifest to ensure tour type and accuracy.
    • Presents information on all tours: Local history, geology, plants and animals.
    • Reviews/Refreshes knowledge from training and pursues ongoing learning and education.
    • Displays positive, friendly and professional behavior in all interactions with customers, fellow employees, competitors, hotel/resort staff, and management.
    • Assists customers in and out of the vehicles.
    • Performs daily inspections and cleanings of assigned vehicles.
    • Maintains adequate communication with the reservation staff to assure timely tour departures and accurate vehicle assignments.
    • Follows traffic laws at all times.
    • Knows and follows all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Programs and policies.
    • Works extra shifts and hours as required.
    • Assists in other positions and departments as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned

    • Reliability/availability – good attendance record, willing to work extra shifts during peak times
    • Quality of tour: driving skills, knowledge of the resources, fun.
    • Safety – follows all guidelines and has a good safety record.
    • Ongoing educational pursuits to enhance interpretive and informational skills.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • A valid Driver’s License is Required.
    • Read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
    • Effective communication skills: energetic, outgoing, entertaining speaker.
    • Team player that is self-motivated and takes initiative.
    • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
    • Outdoor enthusiast with an interest in flora, fauna, history, archaeology, and geology.
    • Able to endure weather extremes in a physically-oriented job.
    • Available to work up to 12 hours/day with up to 10 hours of tour time.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

    • Must be able to understand normal conversation and accurately communicate information.
    • Ability to stand and walk on paved, unpaved, uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to remain balanced; Stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, turn, push, pull, grasp, and reach down, forward and overhead frequently.
    • Manual dexterity to grasp and handle paper, phones, etc.
    • Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds frequently; Assist guests in and out of vehicles.
    • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle; Frequent bouncing up and down in the driver’s seat because of driving on rugged terrain.
    • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: Adverse conditions may include extreme heat and/or cold, wind, humidity and sometimes inclement weather.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

    • CPR/First Aid certified and so should be able to remain calm and effective when dealing with medical emergencies encountered.
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, or previous cab, ride sharing, chauffeur, shuttle, or driving-related work experience highly preferred.
    • Previous off-road driving experience preferred.
    • Two years of customer service experience preferred.
