    Job Description

    This position is contingent on award.

    This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below:

    International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced Dental Assistant to support dentists by preparing patients for procedures, assisting during treatments, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the dental office. They play a crucial role in patient care, comfort, and efficient dental operations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform chairside assistant duties in all phases of dentistry including but not limited to, prosthodontics, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery and endodontics.
    • Assisting dentists by preparing patients and instruments for dental treatment, measure and record vital signs, respond to basic medical emergencies, prepare surgical dressings and specimens, adjust treatment as needed to account for age specific needs of geriatric patient, perform laboratory duties as needed, and operate dental x-ray equipment, including evaluating images for diagnostic quality and utilizing dental imaging safety techniques.
    • Learn how to operate new and existing equipment for patient treatment.
    • Maintain and clean dental equipment, instruments and assigned spaces according to current Infection Control policies, Reportable Medical Events (RME), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to, dental chair/unit maintenance, equipment inventory, instrument inventory, and supply management in the operatory and supply rooms.
    • Routing patients, recording information related to patient care, utilization of all dental programs, and providing patient with education material related to their care.
    • Following surgical procedures, the dental assistant shall provide proper verbal and written post-op instructions.
    • Protect printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
    • Protect data from unauthorized release, loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
    • Follow applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.; enter and retrieve data utilizing electronic dental records; learn and utilize software programs used within VHA such as word processing software to store and retrieve electronic documents and files, activate printers, insert and delete text, format letters, reports, and memoranda and transmit and receive email.
    • Learn and use the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), and Dental Record Manager Plus (DRM+) to access information in the facility computer system.
    • Instruct, assist, and answer questions for a variety of dental trainees in the Dental Clinic.

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements/Certifications:

    • A current license for the state of California from the Committee on Dental Auxiliaries (COMDA).
    • A Dental Radiological certificate.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • At least one year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
    • A valid TB test.

    Education Required:

    • Graduation from a California Board-approved Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) program.
    • Radiation safety knowledge in dental settings.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

    Other Special Qualifications:

    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
    • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
