Louisiana Organization for Refugees and Immigrants (LORI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping refugees and immigrants achieve self-sufficiency by providing them access to critical services and support. As a rapidly growing organization, LORI is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Director to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping our future.
Position Overview:
The Deputy Director provides strategic oversight, leadership, and management support, enhancing LORI’s programs, operations, and growth. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director ensures effective resource alignment, operational excellence, and mission advancement. This position supervises organization staff, aligning resources, systems, and strategies to ensure the achievement of organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management and Development
● Lead, supervise, and mentor a diverse team of staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
● Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement professional development and training programs.
● Provide direct supervision for Program Directors and other staff, as appropriate.
● Develop and conduct staff training as appropriate.
● Assess training programs offered by external partners and recommend suitable staff.
● Ensure cross-departmental collaboration on all aspects of LORI’s work
● Promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable work environment that values diversity and encourages staff engagement and retention.
● Organize and facilitate weekly all-staff meetings.
Operations and Program Oversight
● Oversee the day-to-day operations of LORI's programs and services, ensuring efficient and effective program execution.
● Develop program logic models with clear and actionable performance indicators.
● Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, utilizing data-driven approaches to measure impact and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
● Implement process improvements and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and program quality.
● Collaborate with program directors and staff to develop and implement program goals, work plans, and evaluation strategies.
Leadership and Strategic Planning
● Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement LORI's strategic vision, goals, and objectives.
● Lead strategic planning processes with staff, ensuring alignment with LORI's mission, values, and community needs.
● Analyze organizational performance data, community trends, and funding opportunities to inform strategic decisions.
● Identify and pursue innovative program and service models to address emerging needs within the refugee and immigrant community.
● Guide and oversee the execution of strategic initiatives from the strategic plan, ensuring they align with LORI’s mission and vision.
● Continuously evaluate and adjust strategic priorities to enhance organizational effectiveness.
Financial and Resource Management
● Assist the Executive Director in developing and managing LORI's annual budget and financial planning processes.
● Oversee grant management, financial reporting, and resource development efforts, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and funder requirements.
● Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including grants, contracts, and individual donations.
● Ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability, implementing sound financial management practices.
Staff Management and Development
● Lead, supervise, and mentor a diverse team of staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
● Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement professional development and training programs.
● Promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable work environment that values diversity and encourages staff engagement and retention.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
● Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders.
● Represent LORI at community events, meetings, and conferences, serving as a spokesperson and advocate for refugee and immigrant rights.
● Support the ED’s role in cultivating relationships with donors and supporters, expanding LORI's base of financial and in-kind support.
● Collaborate with community partners to identify and address systemic barriers to refugee and immigrant integration.
Administrative and Governance Support
● Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and funder requirements.
● Support governance activities and board relations, working closely with the Executive Director to facilitate board/committee meeting notes.
● Manage administrative functions and procedures, ensuring organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
● Master's degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, or a related field.
● Candidates should possess 4-7 years of progressive leadership experience within the nonprofit sector, specifically within an immigrant rights organization, and demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice and immigrant rights.
● Demonstrated experience in the supervision and management of diverse staff teams across departments, including the supervision of staff supervisors
● Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage and evaluate complex programs.
● Experience in overseeing organizational and program budgets.
● Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and stakeholders.
● Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, and resource development.
● Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing refugee and immigrant communities.
Preferred Qualifications
● Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant or extensive experience working with refugee and immigrant communities.
● Fluency in English as well as one or more languages spoken by LORI's client populations (Spanish, French, Arabic, etc.).
● Direct experience with immigrant/refugee legal issues and advocacy.
Compensation
● Annual Salary: $90,000 - $100,000, based on experience.
