    A mission-driven public-sector organization in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Deputy Director of Financial Control to join its leadership team. This full-time position offers a salary range of $70,000–$85,000, depending on experience, along with strong benefits, long-term stability, and the opportunity to contribute to projects that directly impact the Buffalo community.

    This Deputy Director of Financial Control role serves as a key member of the finance leadership team and is ideal for candidates currently working as an Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Budget Manager, or Financial Reporting professional who are ready to expand their leadership responsibilities.

    The Deputy Director of Financial Control will support budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, audit activities, cash management, reconciliations, and operational oversight while helping supervise and develop accounting staff. This position plays a critical role in maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the financial health of the organization.

    This is a 100% in-office position in Buffalo, NY.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with the oversight of daily financial and administrative operations
    • Support budget preparation, projections, forecasting, and financial analysis activities
    • Review financial transactions, reports, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies
    • Assist with maintaining and managing funds, chart of accounts, and budgetary controls
    • Participate in financial audits, including preparation of financial statements, schedules, and supporting documentation
    • Perform and oversee reconciliations of financial systems, applications, and accounts
    • Support cash management, budget reporting, and cost control activities
    • Assist with developing and improving financial systems, policies, and procedures
    • Provide leadership and supervision to finance and accounting staff
    • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to resolve financial discrepancies and support audit requirements
    • Serve as a representative of the finance department and provide leadership support when senior leadership is unavailable

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and two (2) years of accounting experience required
      • OR

      • Associate's Degree in Accounting and four (4) years of accounting experience required

        OR

      • Equivalent combination of education and accounting experience
      • Strong understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
      • Experience supporting audits and financial compliance activities
      • Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
      • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills
      • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
