GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   

The Research and Development team at DermTech is seeking a Research Associate (RA) to collaborate on biomarker research, discovery, and validation in dermatological diseases.  The successful candidate will join a research team that combines cutting-edge proteomic and genomic approaches to interrogate and characterize inflammatory pathways involved in the pathogenesis of dermatological disease.  Specifically, the candidate will explore and incorporate new technologies in support of molecular diagnostic development.  The position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic environment and to develop their career at the interface of precision and personalized medicine.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Extract genomic and proteomic material for evaluation in molecular tests
• Plan and execute various laboratory activities with limited instruction
• Participate in analytical assay development activities, including various aspects of planning, feasibility, operation, and transfer
• Participate in disease focused translational biomarker programs and clinical biomarker assessment
• Perform data analysis; write reports and present results and project assessments
• Manage samples from experiments, collaborations, and clinical trials

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

• Bachelor degree with relevant experience in Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field is preferred.
• 1 - 5 years' experience in molecular biology and/or biochemical applications including DNA and RNA based techniques
• Product development experience, including assay optimization, reagent development, integration and testing, transfer to production and documentation
• Hands-on experience with next generation sequencing technologies (NGS)
• Ability to think and work independently in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Analytical, detail oriented, organized, efficient, problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills
