Job Summary
We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team! The Medical Assistant will assist the Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner (“Providers”) with patient care. The MA is expected to maintain professionalism, courteousness, confidentiality & a positive attitude at all times and especially while interacting with all patients. They need to be capable of accurately and professionally handling patient intakes, evaluating and addressing the patient’s needs. The MA must accurately and concisely relay all information from the patient intake to the Providers. When the MA is not assisting a Provider, they will be trained to perform clinical and front office administrative work. The Medical Assistant must be a team player and show respect to the patients, Providers & their coworkers.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Assisting the clinical staff with office duties including inventory, equipment sterilization, and paperwork.
Assisting patient to and from the exam room, intake of patients & charting, relaying pertinent information to the Provider prior to exam
Preparing the room with the necessary equipment and supplies prior to the exam/procedure
Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing (for in office surgeries) the room prior to the exam
Assisting Providers with exams and procedures.
Responsible for transferring and labeling any biopsies, handling sharp instruments, disposing properly of any sharps or hazardous materials in their appropriate containers
Maintaining the exam room between patients and ensuring all OSHA guidelines are being followed
Keep exam rooms fully stocked and notify the Lead MA in charge of ordering, when supplies are running low
Performing suture removal appointments and notifying Provider of any potential infection or issue
Wearing proper items, such as gloves, gowns, masks, safety glasses, etc
Making any necessary patient, pharmacy or insurance phone calls as delegated by the Clinical Coordinator
Documenting all interactions with patients, pharmacies or insurance in the EMR including exams, phone calls or other interactions
Ensuring all necessary consent paperwork is explained to and signed by the patients and properly delivered to the Front Office Staff to place in EMR
Giving any written or oral instructions to the patients at the conclusion of exam relating to instructions from doctor, medications, etc
Upon departure, letting the patient know to sign up for the patient portal for all biopsy results, refill requests, appointment requests, medical questions and general communication with the practice
Accurate and precise pathology labeling, processing, paperwork including identifying which pathology lab participates in the patient’s insurance. Documentation is crucial in all biopsies and results. Double and triple check your work.
Being familiar with all OSHA standards including Bloodborne Pathogen standards. This training will take place upon each new hire and will be conducted annually by the Practice
Equipment maintenance, cleaning and maintaining accurate logs
Assisting with telephone calls as assigned by Practice Manager or Provider including, lab result calls, returning patient calls, calling for any patient pharmacy needs or authorizations, communicating with other Medical Practices & scheduling appointments or rescheduling of procedures
Maintain all samples, properly dispose of out of date items & inform Lead MA and or Drug Rep when supplies are low
Knowledge of and total compliance of all HIPAA standards
Knowledge of all products and procedures in the office in order to relay information to patients
Any and all other assigned job related duties, as needed
Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant desired
