  • Responsibilities

    We are looking for an (ideally) experienced Ophthalmic - Medical Assistant to join our team in Lafayette, LA. The ideal candidate will possess a good working knowledge of ophthalmic and optometric principles and be able to carry out a range of duties associated with patient care. Responsibilities include pre-testing patients, updating medical records, and completing other clinical tasks as prescribed by the medical team. The successful applicant must also be able to communicate effectively with both patients and team members. Responsibilities: • Work up patients and present to the physician • Gather patient information and document major health concerns • Operate ophthalmic instruments to run routine tests • Record notes while the physician examines the patient • Aid physicians in the implementation of diagnostic and minor surgical techniques • Coach patients about prescribed treatment plans Qualifications: • A high school diploma is required for the position. • An individual who is a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program and is willing to be trained as an Ophthalmic Assistant is preferred. • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is advantageous but not essential. • Effective communication abilities, including an aptitude to handle challenging clients, are a must. • Working collaboratively with colleagues, such as physicians and other staff, is desirable. • Proficiency with electronic medical and practice management records systems is expected. • An understanding of ocular and systemic ailments affecting the eyes is necessary. • Knowledge of ultrasound and visual field technology is a requirement. • Knowing hygienic methods and treatments for the eyes is very important. • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding practices is necessary. • Ability to employ medical terminology is expected. • Competence in multitasking is important. • Utilizing technology such as iPads and computers is essential. • A friendly and approachable attitude is necessary. • The capacity to work in a team is essential. • Interest in, and history in, aesthetics is a plus. Compensation: $13 - $19 hourly
