Design Build Architectural Consultant
FULL-TIME POSITION: The ideal candidate for the Residential Project Design As a Project Design Consultant, you’ll be the primary guide for homeowners during the pre-construction phase—from initial consultation through concept development, budgeting, and proposal creation. Projects range from whole house renovations, room additions, garages, garage and attic conversions, as well as full exterior design. This is not an interior designer position and requires extensive construction knowledge. This role blends client consultation, design thinking, scope development, and estimating. You’ll collaborate closely with our design and production teams to turn homeowner goals into clear, buildable plans. If you enjoy helping people make confident decisions, translating ideas into real projects, and working within a structured design-build process, this role is for you. In this role, you will take charge of selling the initial client engagement, serving as a trusted advisor, and leading a team to design and price residential remodeling projects. These projects will encompass a wide range of costs, from $50,000 to $500,000. Travel: • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected. Responsibilities: KC’s design-build process, client experience, and renovation workflow. • Lead initial client consultations to understand the homeowner’s goals, lifestyle needs, and vision for their renovation project. • Guide clients through KC’s design-build planning process , helping translate ideas into practical renovation concepts and realistic project expectations. • Develop preliminary project scopes, budgets, and proposals that clearly communicate the project plan, investment range, and next steps. • Collaborate with internal team members and trade partners to develop thoughtful solutions that balance design, functionality, constructability, and budget. • Coordinate the early planning and estimating phases to ensure projects are well-defined before construction begins. • Serve as the primary point of contact during the planning and proposal phase, building strong client relationships through clear communication and trust. • Work closely with the project management and field teams to ensure project expectations, scope, and client priorities are clearly documented and communicated. • Conduct site visits for measurements, documentation, and project review to support accurate planning and smooth project execution. Qualifications: • Experience in residential remodeling, renovation planning, construction estimating, or design-build project development. • Ability to meet with homeowners, listen carefully to their goals, and help translate their ideas into clear project scopes, realistic budgets, and renovation plans. • Strong ability to develop detailed proposals, scopes of work, and preliminary budgets that align with client expectations and investment ranges. • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously , staying organized while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with homeowners, internal team members, and trade partners. • Ability to think through renovation projects holistically, balancing design intent, functionality, construction feasibility, and budget considerations. • Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to gather pricing, confirm scope details, and maintain project accuracy. • Proficiency with construction or project management software such as JobTread, estimating platforms, takeoff tools, or similar systems , along with strong general computer skills. Compensation: $50,000 - $160,000 yearly
