  • Responsibilities

    AAC is seeking an experienced Scientific Desktop Support Technician with strong expertise in Windows, Mac, or Linux, with experience navigating computing in an Active Directory or other file directory systems within Windows, Linux, and Mac environments. The Scientific Desktop Support Technician will provide technical support to the scientific research staff while being familiar with scientific research methods and tools, capable of supporting the specialized needs of lab research staff.

    This will be a hybrid/onsite position in Rockville, MD

    This contract is in support of one of the Institutes and Centers (ICs) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Public Trust clearance

    • Available to work onsite Monday-Friday standard day hours

    • Provide support for the interface of specialized scientific research equipment within the customer ecosystem, and for the systems with which they integrate

    • Leverage an in-depth understanding of scientific research methods and tools to provide technical solutions to research-related needs

    • Experience navigating the following:

      • Windows, Mac, and Linux enterprise computing environments
      • Active Directory or other file directory domain environments within Windows, Linux, and Mac.
    • Familiarity with conference room AV equipment and infrastructure.

    • Familiarity with virtualization platforms.

    • Familiarity with networking hardware and software such as DHCP, Subnet, DNS, VLAN, wireless, and LAN (local area network).

    • Familiarity with VoIP, fax, multi-function copiers, large format printers, and other common IT peripherals.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent)

    • 4+ years of relevant IT experience within Scientific/Biomedical environments.

    • Experience in Windows and Linux operating systems.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

    • Superior customer service skills, with the ability to empathize and create rapport with varying personalities.

    • ServiceNow expertise for queue management and ticket fulfillment

    • Advanced knowledge and expertise in supporting scientific researchers and their specialized systems and equipment.

    • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Must be able to stand and walk on concrete up to 100% of the work day
    • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
    • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs along and over 50 lbs with assistance
    • Must be able to climb and balance
    • Must be able to use hands to reach, handle, and/or feel
    • Must be able to visually inspect products
    • Must have manual dexterity in hands for tool usage
