    POSITION SUMMARY : Detroit Action is looking for fellows to join our Online to Offline Organizing Department. The fellow is responsible for organizing a digital community to help amplify messaging, distribute political education, and recruit people to events. They will also be responsible for assisting our digital canvassing subcommittee by creating a small community group that shares with each other DA and voter turnout messaging. They will also be responsible for assisting the O2O Organizing Manager. This would run May-November.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The person will be responsible for online organizing, engagement and recruitment of new and existing members by:

    • Generate leads by using digital canvassing tactics like dms, group chats, and phone banking.
    • Creating a small digital community through Signal & Facebook and Instagram who share social media graphics, videos, and messaging.
    • Recruit and attend actions, training and mobilization opportunities in order to activate members and activists.
    • Mobilize and track engagement of members and activists at various events and field opportunities in the database EveryAction or utilizing our organizing applications.
    • Develop the political consciousness of the affiliate organizations’ leaders through popular education, reflection, leadership development and developing appropriate educational materials.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Experience and ability to work/organize across racial and cultural lines.
    • Experience doing community, labor, or political organizing.
    • Experience working in a grassroots membership organization or other type of social justice organization.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

    Fellows are supervised by the Field Organizers and will be peer-supported by the canvassing staff.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • The position is a part-time position that works up to 20 hours per week.
    • This position is based in an office building in Detroit, MI.
    • The position occasionally requires weekend work (Saturday and Sunday).
    • The position requires work outside up to 75% of the time and will be exposed to the elements and inclement weather.

    PREFERRED CANDIDATE:

    • Must be able to submit a resume or cover letter
    • Candidates must have reliable transportation to and from the office
    • Passion for and experience in social justice and/or political causes
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse peers, stakeholders and communities
    • Collaborative work ethic and ability to work effectively across lines of difference
    • Ability to work autonomously as part of an innovative team
    • Ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively, including speaking in small and large group settings.
    • Alignment with Detroit Action’s Mission and Theory of Change
    • Must be willing to work flexible hours that will include time outside of the traditional work day including evenings and weekends.
    • Organized and time management
    • Experience working in communities of color highly preferred

    SALARY:

    The salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $20 per hour.
