    ****About Advance Native Political Leadership Action Fund

    Advance Native Political Leadership Action Fund (Advance) was founded to address the historical traumas, present realities, and future prospects of Native peoples in the United States. Advance is the only national Native American-led organization working to address the vast disparity and unique barriers that exist for Indigenous people in U.S. politics. We are focused on increasing the visibility and representation of Native Americans, especially Indigenous women, in elected offices at all levels by recruiting and training emerging candidates and leaders, and building and connecting national and state-based networks for political organizing. By expanding Native representation in elected office, we actively shape a future where our government is truly reflective of all our communities. Native peoples are ready to serve in leadership with talents rooted in values that make our ancestors proud.

    About the Role

    Advance Native Political Leadership Action Fund is looking for a National Research Associate to join our growing team. The National Research Associate will provide research, data analysis, and administrative support for several Advance programs. These include Advance's candidate endorsement process, candidate and officeholder tracking program, and public opinion research. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, keeping the team connected and informed, strong attention to detail, the ability to balance multiple priorities and deliverables, and the ability to work collaboratively across programs and initiatives for Advance.

    Research and Data Analysis (60%)

    • Maintain a national dataset on Indigenous candidates and elected leaders through data entry and cleanup.
    • Pull data from public sources related to elections, including information on election results, campaign finance, candidate qualification, and voter turnout.
    • Use local codes/charters and election administration websites to research state and local offices, including qualifications, term length, and election dates.
    • Use formulas in Google Sheets to perform data analysis that tracks metrics on candidates and elected officials, including incumbency, gender, win rate, tribal affiliation, and more.
    • Create data visualizations to illustrate metrics on candidates and elected officials.
    • Create process documentation on election research and data entry, cleanup, and analysis.
    • Analyze voter registration and turnout in district analyses to identify electoral opportunities for Native candidates.
    • Support Advance's endorsement program by writing short analyses of the applicants' elections, including election dates, candidate biographies, and fundraising information.
    • Support Advance's endorsement program by monitoring news articles and social media posts on Advance's endorsed candidates.
    • Support the development of a legislative scorecard program by researching federal and state legislation with an outsize impact on Native communities. This work will involve using Lexis Nexis, reading news articles and white papers, and holding interviews with stakeholders.
    • Draft section of Advance public opinion research reports with the guidance of the Research and Data Manager.

    Communications (20%)

    • Identify examples of successful policy work by Native elected leaders through news articles, interviews, and online legislation trackers. Write email content highlighting these successes.
    • Write email updates for Advance's Native Power on the Ballot newsletter, highlighting Indigenous candidates running across the country.
    • Create talking points and fact sheets about upcoming elections and election results to share with state partners.
    • Promote the Advance endorsement process and the Native Power on the Ballot newsletter through email outreach to candidates and state partners.

    Administrative Support (10%)

    • Maintain Advance's organizational landscape map, tracking Native civic engagement organizations across the country.
    • Provide editing support, manage revisions, and perform fact checking for Advance research reports.
    • Coordinate the graphic design process for Advance research reports.
    • Attend meetings with research partners and take clear, comprehensive notes.

    To be successful in this role you should have the following experience:

    • Four-year College Degree or equivalent 3+ years of experience in a related field, including in an administrative support, research, or programmatic role.
    • Experience developing and maintaining organized, comprehensive, and detailed research in Google Sheets or Excel;
    • Experience using formulas in Google Sheets or Excel to quantitatively analyze data;
    • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated awareness of one's own cultural identity, respect for differences, and the ability to learn and build on varying cultural and community norms. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture.
    • Experience creating and maintaining data visualizations and reports;
    • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy are critical to success in the role;
    • Demonstrated ability to organize personal task lists, maintain thorough notes and action items, manage your time, self-establish deadlines and communicate resources needed effectively.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both in professional communications and communicating research findings.
    • Demonstrated ability to achieve results; self-starter who thinks strategically, proactively and creatively.
    • Demonstrated willingness to be a team player with experience working in fast-paced, evolving environments that require lots of collaboration, transparency, and an all hands on deck approach.
    • Ability to juggle multiple projects and cross-department work simultaneously.

    We hope that you bring one or more of these skills:

    • Familiarity with public sources of data related to elections, including election results, campaign finance, candidate qualification, and voter turnout.
    • Comfort working remotely, experience collaborating with teams / staff remotely – being responsible for managing your own time and communicating effectively.
    • Experience or exposure to specific tools: wordpress, salesforce, google suite, and task management software (e.g. Monday, Asana, EveryAction)

    Working at Advance

    This position is salaried within a range of $65,000 - $75,000 and comes with a generous package of comprehensive benefits. Including but not limited to:

    This is a remote position and requires consistent phone and internet access at your home office location. Our working hours are 8a-5p EST, though we're open to someone on the West Coast starting at 7am PST. This position may require up to 20% travel. We are not offering U.S. visa sponsorship for this role.

    Interview Process
