Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Reports to: DON/Regional Clinical Operations Manager (With direct oversight provided by Site Manager/Charge RN) Exemption Status : Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Dialysis Technician provides hemodialysis for the treatment of the Dialysis patient in the contracted Skilled Nursing Facility setting under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and the promotion of the mission and core values of the company and in compliance with regulations of all regulatory agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Current Hemodialysis Technician Certified
- Current CPR certification
- 2 years dialysis experience preferred (Mandatory experience for home hemodialysis)
- Good verbal communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license. Driving record must meet insurance liability requirements
- Basic to intermediate computer skills; ability to use all required computer systems of the company
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Check/monitor dialysis water and delivery systems and record test results prior to dialysis machine set up according to established procedures
- Monitor dialysis machines and systems for correct functioning, respond to visual and audible alarms, makes appropriate adjustments and inform Registered Nurse and Biomed staff of any abnormal findings or malfunctions and obtain cultures as requested
- Record Pre-Dialysis patient vital signs as directed by RN
- Review all dialysis orders, perform and record observation of patient physical and mental status and all parameters of the dialysis treatment, obtain blood samples and culture specimens and prepare specimens for shipment
- Participate in the disinfection of machines and dialysis equipment as per established policy with completion/ maintenance of all related logs
- Provide chronic hemodialysis therapy, recommends a dialysis plan for ultrafiltration to licensed nurse, initiate dialysis via approved accesses, observe all safety measures, monitor patient vital signs applicable to critically ill patients, administer fluid therapy or other appropriate treatments as directed, document activity appropriately
- Instruct patient in the care of vascular access.
- Administer patient quality care in a considerate, respectful manner.
- Document all information appropriately on the dialysis flow sheet and in the patient medical record

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT/QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Complete all clinical flow sheets and required documentation for billing
- Active participation in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and initiatives
- Proactively assist Management in monitoring/managing staffing hours per treatment
- Proactively review and report inventories and supply shortage to Management/designee
- Monitor medication / supply inventory levels placing orders according to established procedure/ RN direction
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
- Able to work overtime with little or no notice
- Read, understand and follow company policy and procedures as related to patient care and employment
- Must be able to drive a vehicle and/or have means to travel to each site on a regular basis
- Know facility emergency plans and demonstrate ability to act swiftly, confidently in an emergency
- Attend staff meetings and educational activities
- Consistent, regular attendance as scheduled is an essential responsibility of this position
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Vision adequate to perform essential duties and responsibilities of position
- Physical requirements can vary. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:
- Ability to lift minimum of 1 pound to a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, be able to stand on feet for extended periods, and use full range of body motions

Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions. Protective Clothing or Personal Devices: gloves, gown, face shield, eye shield, and or goggles
