Digital Fabrication Engineer

  • Responsibilities

TFX is a design-to-manufacturing company based in Oxnard, CA, serving the aerospace, technology, and entertainment industries. We specialize in advanced composites, CNC machining, and large-scale fabrication — transforming complex creative and technical concepts into high-precision, real-world parts and assemblies. We’re not a traditional job shop. Every project is different — often a one-off prototype or custom assembly — and rarely does the same part get made twice. Our work ranges from machining aluminum components to cutting full-scale composite tooling or sculpting vehicle models on our large 5-axis routers. We’re looking for a hands-on CAD/CAM Engineer who loves design, fabrication, and problem-solving — someone who’s excited to create, adapt, and build things that don’t exist yet. Responsibilities: • Interpret and modify customer-supplied CAD models for manufacturability (complex surfaces, assemblies, and part adjustments). • Design simple custom components for larger, more complex assemblies • Create 3- and 5-axis CAM toolpaths in Fusion 360 or Powermill (or equivalent), selecting tools and strategies for unique materials and geometries. • CNC setup and operation — from Haas mills to large-format routers. • Participate in fabrication and assembly work — trimming, fitting, finishing, or integrating machined parts into larger builds. • Collaborate with fabricators to ensure quality, precision, and design intent. • Maintain organized CAD/CAM files and contribute to improving digital workflows. Qualifications: Requirements • Solid CAD skills (Onshape, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or equivalent). We use Onshape for CAD. • Basic to intermediate CAM experience — strong understanding of machining fundamentals. • Familiarity with CNC setup, tool selection, and operation. • Mechanical intuition, strong spatial reasoning, and a hands-on mindset. • Passion for building and fabrication , not just sitting at a desk. • Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn new materials, processes, and tools. Preferred Experience (Not Required) • Experience in machining or fabricating with composites or tooling board. • Knowledge of 5-axis machining or large-scale fabrication equipment. • Background in prototyping, model making, or advanced fabrication. Compensation: $30 - $40 hourly
