    POSITION PROFILE

    The Custom Product Mechanical Designer is responsible for the documentation of product designs by creating drawings, models and layouts in CAD to manufacture custom product components and assemblies based on standard product lines.

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops the mechanical design of parts and assemblies that adhere to industry and Knoll standards and manufacturing practices
    • Develops detail and assembly drawings with adherence to ANSI/ASME drafting standards
    • Communicates with Custom Product Representatives, manufacturing engineers and Knoll dealers to clarify design requirements and possible limitations
    • Resolves product design issues based on manufacturing constraints and quality system feedback
    • Develops layout drawings for workstations and complex open plans for confirmation of design integrity

    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to ensure daily targets are met on a consistent basis
    • Initiates timely communication of project progress and challenges
    • Participates with team to coordinate efforts and resolve issues
    • Willing to cross-train in various areas of the department as required
    • Actively contributes to the continuous improvements process at Knoll
    • Adheres to Knoll safety policies and ISO procedures
    • Flexibility to work different shifts and overtime to meet customer schedules and requirements

    Required Skills

    • Mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills and innovative thinking
    • Ability to resolve product design issues based on manufacturing constraints
    • Computer skills – Intermediate level with ability to navigate a computer file system, create and save files, input data into an Excel spreadsheet and exhibit familiarity with essential database programs
    • Strong English skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate in a clear manner
    • Ability to work in a team environment

    Required Experience

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Two year technical degree or technical diploma

     TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum two years working experience utilizing Creo 3D mechanical design and detailing software, Pro Engineer or Solidworks
    • Working knowledge of Windchill Product Data Management software
    • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes used in consumer product applications, particularly steel tubing, sheet metal, wood and hardware
    • Advanced working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing and Engineering Drawing practices
    • Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing bills of material
