    The School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences in the College of Health at the University of Montana invites applications for TWO TENURE-TRACK POSITIONS at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank beginning August 2022.  A successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program, pursue funding for research or service programs, teach graduate/undergraduate courses (academic and/or clinical), advise and mentor students, direct student research, and participate in school, college, and university service.   

     

    ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF SPEECH, LANGUAGE, HEARING, AND OCCUPATIONAL SCIENCES

    The School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences is accredited through the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and offers the following programs: (1) a Ph.D. doctoral degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, (2) a Master’s of Science (MS) degree in Speech-Language Pathology, (3) a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders, (4) a Post-baccalaureate Leveling Certificate, (5) and a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certificate. An occupational therapy graduate program will be launched in the near future. The School currently has 5 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 4 non-tenure track clinical assistant professors in speech, language, and hearing sciences, and additional academic and clinical adjuncts. The School currently has approximately 3 PhD students, 70 master’s students, 110 undergraduate majors, 70 leveling students, and 30 SLPA students. SLHOS faculty deliver content via direct, campus-based course instruction, synchronous online instruction, and asynchronous online instruction. Faculty direct active research labs and conduct rigorous research in addition to commitment to the scholarship of teaching. In addition, faculty are committed to innovative clinical training programs conducted through the on-campus DeWit RiteCare Speech, Language, Hearing Clinic Faculty. SLHOS faculty foster and enjoy interprofessional research and training collaborations across international, regional, and campus partnerships.

    POSITION DETAILS

    TENURE TRACK FACULTY: Speech, Language, Hearing, & Occupational Sciences

    TITLE: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

    POSITION TYPE: Academic

    SCHEDULE: Full time academic year position beginning fall semester 2022

    ENTRY RATE: $70,000 for entry level; range depending on experience

    BENEFITS: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program

    PRIMARY DUTIES: Teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching responsibilities may include a combination of undergraduate, graduate, and clinical courses.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • All candidates with any specialty in the field of speech-language pathology, audiology, and other communication disorders are encouraged to apply 
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a diverse population
    • Ability to teach independently in a graduate clinical program
    • Capable of acquiring extramural funding
    • Record of scholarship and professional/clinical service sufficient to merit appointment at the Associate or Assistant Professor level
    • Ability to learn and apply new technologies
    • A research doctoral degree (or ABD) in speech, language, and hearing sciences, communication disorders and sciences, or related field

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • The following areas of expertise are encouraged to apply: complex communication disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, early language development, early intervention, medical pediatrics, child feeding and swallowing, craniofacial disorders, pediatric/adult motor speech, traumatic brain injury, fluency disorders, autism spectrum disorder, audiology, aural rehabilitation
    • Clinical certification in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology
    • Eligibility for Licensure at the Montana State level
    • Evidence of successful academic/funding/administrative experience at the University level
    • Established record of obtaining extramural funding
